If you were Prince's manager what would you tell him to do? If you were Prince's manager what would you tell him to do? [Edited 8/13/14 9:07am]

Tell him to do? Nothing. Pretty sure the manager takes orders from him. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think it was Shiran Something or something who pushed him to release a commercial album (Musicology), convincing him that she was able to push it into the charts and she'd resign if it wasn't a hit? IDK I think I read it here, but yeah usually u just don't tell what to do, even the example above was more of a bet than anything. Reportedly (Lipstick Alley Girl, for what it's worth), things started to go sour between and Manuela when she started to tell him what music he should do. I would tell him to be courageous enough to finally marry Larry Graham right away in his very own Lovesexy-shrine, rename himself Princess and be happy and safe at home for the rest of his life with his spiritual leader and husband.

If I wanna be able to pay my bills and keep my job, whatever he wants to do. [Edited 8/13/14 12:18pm] Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Tell him to go back in time, fire Tony M, and then go back to 1984 right before Purple Rain, and release an album every 3-4 years, and an outtake collection of 10 discs every 7-10 years. This way instead of getting a ton of music jammed on to radio and MTV to the point of over saturation, we actually would have more music from him, but only a few actual proper album releases. The masses wouldn't get bored of him, and the die hards would have a 150 or so song collection every 7-10 years to get their fix waiting for the next proper album.
So instead of clogging the market with a new album every year driving Warners nuts, we could have had:
From 1985-2014 we could have had around 9-12 major release albums, and around 45 albums worth of material on a few massive outtakes collections. The market would not have been oversaturated, and the outtakes sets would've been only promoted to die-hards...with some sure fire awesome songs, but most would not be single type songs.
Why such a long gap between major releases?
Take U2, Michael Jackson, and Janet Jackson. From 1986-2001, all 3 artists sold more than Prince. Those 3 combined released 15 albums. Prince released that on his own depending on which albums you count as being an "official" album.

Brilliant, Stillwaiting, that would have been the way to go for Prince! Good thinking!!! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Oh yeah? All three "artists" released more crap combined and individually than Prince could have ever put out, even if he would have released an album per month. Since when are sales-figures synonymous with quality? Media-coverage is usually based on the biggest crap or in other words, media focuses on the ugliness criminal promo-pluggers pay the most for.

I would try to convince him to focus more on his legacy and the remasters.I would convince him to release live shows on DVD and to allow his music videos on YouTube.

Of course he made "better" music. He also had Tony M in the band, and released "Jughead." There is no comeback for that, no matter what you may think of writing. Fact is, MJ, JJ, and U2 did not flood the market. Their fans were hungry for the new music.
And nearly every fan on this site would rather have less music from Prince overall than wish my idea had come true. I'd rather have MORE music, and with the long gaps between albums, he would have had BOTH sales and huge critical acclaim.

I would ASK, what would you like to do? What can I manage for you, since he is the one doing, I would simply put: be helping. To "Man-Age-Err" Is to make the mis-take of simply taking and when you take instead of give the therein is the Err and the man ages, from the illusion of truth in the action of taking in the first place. Besides, we are created to live 4 ever, with God all things are possible. Thank you. 2 Serious 4 U 2 handle...

I would tell him that from now on he is to be called Mr Pink. I would then tell him to put the kettle on.

I dont think Prince's manager would ever be able to tell him to do anything, I'd imagine Prince's manager is more like a PA who he tells what to do, when to do it and they are there for that reason alone so that he doesnt have to deal with people. [Edited 8/14/14 1:25am]

Or the time Robert Cavallo told him he couldn't go onstage wearing stretchy pants with no underwear, so Prince put on just the underwear - no pants - and went onstage that way. (And so the Dirty Mind era was born.) We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

To keep being the GENIUS that he is! AlSo to release all the '"Masterpieces" that he gave to others with his original vocals.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

. . Yeah exactly, I think the problem has been over the years though, that he needed direction of a firm manager, the Prince way is not the best way, far from it. Yeah he's still a massive name, but can you imagine how big he could have been if it wasnt for bad decisions after the WB era?

I'd manage him up a proper website with every album b side live track video etc .. available to buy.
I'd take the money from that and start printing limited edition vinyl and cd box packages to sell as well.
I'd get him on an era tour schedule. several 3 month tours of the hot US cities for each era where prince plays the record b sides and other tracks from each era.
I'd also get him some primo after show gigs but these gigs would only feature 12 inch remix versions. No jamming .. no covers .. just cool shit like a 12 minute computer blue or the scarlet pussy extendo.
I would also burn his pjs that he wears on stage and his blouses with his album covers ironed on.
I would get him to block out one month to jam with choice members of past bands and come up with music together and record all of it. If it goes well .. repeat.
I would challenge prince to record an album by himself with only a real piano, real acoustic guitars (not that kmart shit he used on the truth), a kit and hand drums and a bass and sparingly used electric guitars with minimal effects.
I would force him to listen to Leonard Cohen, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan to inspire his lazy lyric writing and half assed guitar playing up a few notches.
The Vault would be cataloged and opened up with tracks included in box sets and web sites.
I'd fire hannah.

I'd tell him to give his fans what they want, and go retro for a tour, and maybe one album, so he can cash in then move on with his life. Having that safety net isn't healthy, and he's got a 10 year window to expect good health from his old collaborators. He should take The Time, The Revolution, Sheila E., Dez, Andre, and all the rest on tour. Every night should be a different show with anything from The Rebels, to The Revolution. He could even bluff about retiring the hits, Bowie style, and then release tour ep's of some vault material, including his mediocre duets with big stars, and cash in that way. I'd also tell him to release another Black Album, free this time. I'd also convince him to do full albums live in the style of "Don't look Back" shows. Then I'd ask him what he wants to do, and try to make those crazy dreams come true. Also, try to purchase him a unicorn and a camel.

1. Check into a partial hospitalization program for 15 weeks. It has to be a real, solid, professional mental health program with at least 10 other patients from all walks of life. Not a religious camp and not a celebrity coddling place.
2. Attend group therapy at least once per day during this time and individual therapy at least twice a week. 3. Actually open up, express his true feelings, and learn to listen to others from different backgrounds and perspectives. 4. Once steps 1-3 are done, authorize a top notch representative to release any and all music in the vault. Alan Leeds would be a great choice. Mandate that person release at minimum 10 CDs of new material over the next five years, however they see fit. This agreement has to be in place and signed by the end of 2014. 5. Do whatever he wants with the rest of his life. I'll retire from this manager position on 1/1/2015 if he does 1-4 this year. [Edited 8/19/14 16:55pm] "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"
