Blur hated themselves during that period and wrestling with some demons. They were just jerky prep school boys acting out. I'd bet this isn't a moment they're proud of, like a lot of their press from that time. They could be jerks.

If you are prepared to go around with "Slave" written on your cheek then you best be big enough to accept having the piss ripped out of you. Goes with the territory I'm afraid. Do it and own it of you must but what do you expect. Same goes with the name change. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Where are they now? Blur still do the occasional thing but they went out on a high rather than drag thier career out, say, 20 years after it really ended...besides have you not heard of Gorrilaz? Incidently there are millions of people saying "where is he now?"about Prince. P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

Incidently I think the whole thing was probably a reaction to multi-millionaire Prince, turning up to an industry driven awards ceremony to pick up International Best Male for god knows what album (1994/1995) and having Slave written on his face about how unfair the system is. Do some of you not even bother to google other things other than the org? Open a new window and try a little research. Type in Graham Coxon, Damon Albarn (no need for the surname as his first name is Google's top hit), Royal Albert Hall, West End Musical, Blur and their impact on Britpop, anything really. Once you've read a little then start your reply

Sorry, you lose again. Dude, you do sound a bit dilusional to be fair. Those are arenas by the way, stadiums tend to be way bigger. Off the top of my head Prince hasn't sold one (stadium)out in a long time, Stade de France a few tears ago was a substantially reduced capacity. He has never really been a Stadium act like Sprinsteen or U2 or whoever anyway. Surely you must understand that only complete FANATICS could be described as in a'frenzy' about a new album. Even most people on this fan site seem pretty indifferent to the new material. I for one am more excited by the delux version of a 30 year old album that we also await - hopefully with lots of bonus material. I don't mean to appear like I am being deliberately contrary to you, hey we all have a level of obsession with Prince which is why we are on this site - but get some perspective.

Whilst Prince did create a bit of hype in the UK this year, his time ended a long time ago. He's a touring nostalgia act now. But does that matter? Not at all, he's still one of the best live performers.

The new mod is the funniest one indeed, I would thought his post is ironic but, sadly, it isn't. Damon Albarn is widely recognized as one of the most relevant musicians at the moment, his album Everyday Robots a serious candidate in the 2014 polls; on the contrary, Prince, four years after his last album and a bunch of mediocre songs inbetween, is nothing until he releases a great album, which may never happen. Sorry, I love Prince as much as anyone here, but that's the way I see it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree regarding Prince's relevance as a live musician, though. But as a recording artist, nothing. As a creative musician, nothing. And selling mugs doesn't increase his significance.

Exactly. But what would you expect in a forum where Janet Jackson/Mariah Carey/Beyonce get all the attention?
LoL..........the Jackson family fans took over this place years ago. They had no place else to go.

Militant is just wearing his Prince glasses, so he can be excused. . Blur probably did all of the above on their farewell tour a few years back. And Damon's Gorillaz stuff is WAY more exciting than anything that P has brought out this century. . And tbh, if either were to tour Aust tomorrow, I'd want a Blur show, by a mile! But thats only cause P's shows havent changed this century either! . Oh.... and that "dominating the press" line WAS pretty funny.

Gorillaz are crap. Prince concert any day over that cartoon crap.

This thread is about Blur, what Albarn does separately is hardly the same thing.

Ok...but this thread is about and since he quit in 2000 and was replaced by Prince I guess we can only refer to Prince recording career in the last 14 years # tumbleweed Oh, and the LG arena wasn't sold out...they were giving tickets away and STILL it wasn't full. Do you ever, actually, yunno, moderate? Maybe I don't even need to answer. Just refer you to all the other responses undermining your silly views? In any event, I accept that those Arena figures are impressive. See what I did there? I was reasonable. Of course, as a fanatic, that's something you simply cannot do. Try it for second...nope. Not possible is it? Perspective is not your friend.

Th LG arena was sold out i was there on the 15th of May , but not the 19th of may which you might be talking about. Sowhat the second show was not sold out , don;t think Prince was crying , he was selling out all is other shows.

Brits don't really go along with rich megalomaniac popstars taking themselves too seriously so we poke fun at them in the best way possible - stick two fingers up and show 'em yer arse. . See also: Jarvis Cocker and Michael Jackson.

There we go. That's all you needed to say.
It's just semantics anyway. A quick Google search suggests that the words "stadium" and "arena" are interchangeable, except stadiums are open air and arenas are not. |

who is Blur? | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah--well, actually, it's about a member of Blur (not even Albarn) making fun of something Prince was doing 20 years ago. That everyone else was also making fun of at the time. . As to how I reacted--I didn't. I was only slightly aware of Blur at the time, and didn't hear about the "DAVE" thing. If I had known about it, I would have laughed. It's kind of funny. Not as funny as the "SLAVE" thing, but kind of funny. . Loved the music and shows then, but I wasn't horribly impressed by his writing on his face. Was I supposed to be? Maybe if he'd changed the message every day, like in Charlotte's Web.

Britpop. . . . Meanwhile in 'Merica............. "who's Blur!!??"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Blur were a fantastic band who changed tack and left the Britpop sound and got all serious in the late 90's. Blur the album and 13 are strokes of genius. And these songs especially are absolute gems: . Beetlebum, Tender, Trimm Trabb, Bugman, Country Sad Ballad Man, Death of a Party. . I thought Think Tank was a step too far and they should have retired before that. But all in all, a great band that actually had some real talent. They quit while they were ahead, and that was a good thing. If they released another album now, they would easily outsell any new album from Prince (in the UK at least).
