The facility, not the song.

I've never been there but the pictures and descriptions from those who have are awesome.

But what I really want to know is - does any other artist have anything even remotely comparable to Paisley Park?

I know most big-time musicians have home studios, and I'm sure some are amazing. Heck, I have a home studio and I'm not even a pro. So a home studio is nothing to really brag about.

But a giant, free-standing building like Paisley Park? That's so cool! I am not aware of anyone that has anything like it.

IMHO Prince should be lauded for incredible vision when it comes to Paisley Park.

just a shame he can't make a functional record label from there.

For it's time, it is one of a kind. I don't really keep up with too many other artists, so I can't be sure anyone else has anything quite like it. I can say that Flyte Tyme studios was a tiny dump in comparison, but it had its own charm. So sad Jam & Lewis left. If Michael Jackson wasn't all into living in an amusement park, he could've had an awesome version of Paisley Park, lol.

The only other place i can really think of at the top of my head are Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland Studios. Which in my opinion doesn't compare to Paisley Park.

Great place! He has a large concert venue (about 5,000 capacity) and a smaller, more intimate concert room. Also, there is a basketball court. Not to mention the cool furniture and 3 recording studios. I know they were state of the art when they were built. I would hope that he has them decked with newer equipment as time passes. Only the best for Prince!

i'm sure it is, but that doesn't necessarily mean that PP sucks. you really, really have to get to one of these parties sometime. just, pop onto the plane and see one. i think you'll love the simple elegance of the exterior (it glows in the dark), and funky, unique vibe of the interior.

i love what ive seen of it and even during the oprah interview she described it as amazing...ive also read its as big as 3 football fields in size...cant be too shaby...some may not like the decor i find it very nice.

I wish he would deck out his studio with older, analogue equipment. The polished production he has been using just doesnt do it for me. And using Pro Tools? Oh dear. Bring back the old stuff!

OK, even though it took a really snarky comment, we have been made aware of Peter Gabriel's absolutely beautiful facility. I'm not going to compare its architecture (or any other facility's) to PP because quite simply they are in different locales. PP was designed to work where it is; Real World Studios was designed to work where it is.

So besides Peter Gabriel, do any other artists have their own facility?

All football fields are the same size.

Paisley Park was unique in that it was constructed in the middle of farmlands, but sadly, the suburbs have caught up and almost surrounded it. This has happened to lots of businesses/parks/resorts/farms that start off outside a city "in the country".

Its design is not unlike most rectangular bright malls, or business buildings constructed in the late 80's and early 90's. It has sections with regular office panel on the ceiling in hallways, etc. I noticed all this when it was open for a week during the Xenophobia event (the last "celebration"). There are sections where it opens up and there's stairs leading up, colors, a little kitchen, tv room. There are probably really cool parts we were not allowed access to. I think we were only in one corner of it, plus the main auditorium concert stage.

The studios themselves are of course, top grade! The entire thing is an incredible accomplishment and great idealistic realization of his ambition.

But things do change with time.

He should do an arena tour, raise a budget, then rebuild it somewhere, with a new interior designer and exterior architect!
