Dont worry folks. The meltdown is almost complete. The self sabotage, which has been going on for decades, is almost at an end. The never-to-be-released album, Plectrum Electrum will finally never be released. The much anticipated remasters will no longer be much anticipated, becoming mildly anticipated before becoming wholly unanticipated.

.

Yes, the actual Dawn, which Prince hoped we would live to see back in the 80's, will soon be upon us. It is a Dawn of "Did you mean Prince William" when searching for Prince in Google. It is a Dawn of "No results found" when searching You Tube. A Dawn of "Presley" followed by "Prodigy" in the alphabetical order of popular artists in the record stores. A Dawn of "Try using more search terms" when looking in iTunes. And a Dawn where www.prince.org directs to a page that states "This domain name is available for purchase".

.

2015 is going to be the biggest year yet!

Horribly, and irrefutably correct. It's THE TRUTH Prince has been talking about all these years.

Everybody knows how much Prince LOVES, LUVS, OOOXXX open letters. Especially the ones written on this site, which Prince totally NEVER reads, or responds to. <sarcasm> Given how many references there are to open letters and complaints on websites in his released material, I'm guessing there are probably 50 or so songs in the vaut that respond to some of these helpful advice threads. I'm sure that, if not for all the open letters and whatnot, Prince would have churned out an additional 6 lousy albums since 20TEN. So, I'm patient. I hope he figures it all out. The produced-by-Josh tracks are worse than the more recent produced-arranged-written-and-performed-by-Skip material. Forget it. Free Baby Brother! nutty A (shorter) Open letter to Prince: Please recycle more of the best-of-your-private-conversations-with-Larry-Graham into song. That's got to beat that ThisCouldBeBetter song... biggrin

I think it's just a rule of not posting his videos, so there is no exception for 6 seconds or Essence Fest promo. I hear what you are saying though! I don't really see how it helps him make money to not have promotional clips uploaded (ie. short live bits, or classic music videos long since paid for), or classic TV appearances (ie. Superbowl) that don't make bank anyhow. He made his stance a long time ago, and I have come to accept it.

Can I be the DUNCE in the class that thinks that Prince's stance on YouTube etc is correct and not against fans but against these multinational f*cks taking the p*ss by getting users to violate copyright and then profiteering from it?

Just because they've won by becoming bigger than all record companies and film companies in the world....EVER combined doesn't mean he should just knuckle down and take it up the ass.

The Beatles learned that not kowtowing to trends in which your album can be turned into a marmalade giveaway (for only seven bottletops plus P&P) is a very worthwhile long-term strategy.

The tide is turning and I've no doubt that there's going to be an emergent strategy from the new Warners setup for bringing everything to availability but in the meantime, I'm glad that he's employing Websheriff (or is it Bride of Websheriff these days?).

His legacy is worth more than twelve likes on Flakbook and a wall of haters on TwuntTube.

I think I'll have a liedown now

Dear Prince:

I have been a fan of yours since I came out of the womb. I don't consider myself to be one of the so-called "fans" on this site that complains about anything and everything that you do. Your music has always been a part of my life and will forever be. But, I think it's time for you to consider that perhaps it might be beneficial for you not to be so tyrannical all the time about having your amazing performances online.

No, I am not suggesting that you open your vault and put everything on Youtube, that would be preposterous. I wholeheartedly agree that you deserve to earn a living from your music. I get it.

But, yesterday on Instagram, I saw a video clip of your Essence Festival performance being used as a promo for an entertainment group that I could clearly see was the official promoter of an airing of the Essence Fest on BET. I replayed it a few times and then saved it as a favorite.

Today, I went back into my account to replay it again and it was gone. I checked everywhere to make sure I hadn't moved it or deleted by mistake.

Prince, the clip was only six seconds. You were singing "Cool" and it was amazing.

But, even a six second clip by a promoter can't survive the wrath of the overzealous Purple Censors?

Back in 2007, I think I watched your Super Bowl halftime show an untold number of times online and was sitting around wondering when you would release a DVD so I could continue to do so. Now, all of the clips are gone forever.

This year, I saw an amazing Super Bowl performance and I'm sure you did too. Chances are, Bruno ain't gonna scrub his performances and his fans (including me) will be able to relive that moment for a very long time.

Prince, you're eccentric, a genius and a bit difficult to completely understand. But, help me see why you won't even give us six seconds of you anymore.

Sincerely,

17 Dayze

Sometimes I wonder what the fans are aware of and what they aren't. Performances at the superbowl are not OWNED by that artist, it is owned by the broadcaster which would be the NFL/CBS not Prince. Prince's old records getting blocked on youtube isn't necessarily Prince doing that sure it may say 'blocked due to copyright violation by controversy music' but all 'controversy music' is published by warner-chappelle. Warners owns at the very least 50% of controversy music and any other publishing name Prince used. An artist even of Prince's stature doesn't have the pull to demand youtube block anything but Warners does. If you look on youtube not many performances are blocked from 1998 to now. Is it coincidence that all Prince's old stuff got blocked just when those 'best of' CD's came out? Also know that Prince and Warners were still very much working against each other so Prince had his lawyers looking for any music under the warner-chappelle unbrella that could potentially create revenue like a youtube channel. If Prince's lawyers knowingly allow his music to be used on youtube and social media for free then what right for payment could Prince claim if Warners did the same?
