Not taking sides, but:

You said it yourself, it was only 6 seconds....

Why would you ever want to watch it again?!?

What could 6 seconds of a performance of Cool do for you that you have to see it again?

There are MANY complete performances of Cool out there.

Did something amazing happen in that 6 seconds that was worth seeing again and again?

Just sayin'...

wink

I don't know if you're a native speaker of English or not but if you're not, then I understand. But, if you are then I am baffled here.

I have never been the type to actively search for bootlegs and never will be. With that said, how much time did YOU invest in finding these alleged "video clips" of Prince? They don't exist in the easily accessible internet world and I seriously doubt that whatever you claim to have found still exists.

Do us all a favor and do not post any links of any kind on this thread whatsoever.

When you have your favorite singer of all time scrub even the SLIGHTEST bit of video that you've seen of him in YEARS, don't you think it's petty and desperate on HIS part and not mine?

I really didn't mean to get your panties all twisted here.

I also don't get why you're jumping to the conclusion that I'm promoting bootlegs. confuse

Sure some of the performances of Cool that are out there are bootlegs, some are not.

And I never claimed it was easy to find. Just saying there are many complete performances of Prince doing Cool already. That's all.

Like coffeebreak insinuated, you gotta save Prince stuff quick when you find it, it won't be there long.

wink

All that said, I wasn't disagreeing with you on whether or not it sucks that Prince removes everything. I was simply expressing my inability to understand why your frustrations would culminate over a 6 second clip. Surely there's more essential material we've lost access to due to his policies, no?

In my not-so-humble opinion, a 6 second clip is no big deal. Don't let my sharing of that opinion push your buttons. It's all good.

Prince is being petty, that is all.

And nobody's panties are in a wad dude. I am going through a musical "divorce" from Prince and this is hard. He's my old sweater but another bright shiny thing came along and well, he's the one I creep with! lol

Just give up now and accept. wink

Nope, this divorce is damn near close to being final lol deal

The "sidepiece" experience with Bruno has been spectacular, might I add!

I don't know how much longer I can deal with Prince. It's like he just wants to destroy the souls of the remaining fans left! But, I was ahead of the curve and didn't do the whole pay $77 bucks for a subscription or whatever that was. I kept my money and judging from what you guys wrote, I'm glad I did! lol

Oh well, back to side piece...

Naw, everytime I reach out for Bruno (online) he's there.....as soon as Prince is up, he's down. It's like Prince has erectile dysfunction, but in the form of how he treats his fans. He gets us all wound up and then he deflates us. wilted

Mind you, he's got plenty of lil' blue pills but he refuses to use them....rolleyes

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Bruno is "working the middle"....lol horny

If Prince fully embraced the internet and particularly YouTube I think he would have TWICE as many fans and also crucially be making new fans every single day. I meet young artists and music fans that don't have a clue who he is and that is sad. When I try to show them something online it's a crap selection. The reason MJ is still selling millions of albums is partly due to YouTube which is how 95% of people discover new (to them) music.

Ps ffs release plectrum electrum, I'm so bored of it now, I don't really care about it anymore.. These games you play are tiresome

You're absolutely right Alden, I was in a music store last week and two kids who were probably 12 years old were, "Hey, look here's Michael Jackson" and they both were checking out MJ's section....now, chances are they were on Youtube before they set foot in that place.

It's kind of sad to see someone you have admired for a long time melt down and unravel so spectacularly. Prince's downfall is greed. He's pushing sixty, has no immediate family to leave his fortune to, yet he would rather die than see a non-musician make one red cent off his efforts, even when it's deserving, or profitable for Prince! Naturally he passes all of this off as virtue - lossless reproduction, artist's rights, etc. It's starting to reek of mental illness. LET IT GO, Prince!

[Edited 8/9/14 10:34am]

That has yet to be detirmined. lol

I am still hoping all this you tube business is about the huge load prince is gonna splat in our faces when he rolls out the remasters. Creating the demand so when he gives it all up people will really pay for it. And it will all be in super high quality. But then I hear a song like pretzelbodylogic and I go back to telling myself to NEVER listen to anything past the WB years again. Think of it as saving a few pictures from when you and prince were happy, but not stalking him on facebook to see each and every new tramp he is strutting around with and realizing they are stupider and stupider and asking yourself ... am i that stupid for liking this guy?

THIS. Michael Jackson is still insanely popular, and will remain insanely popular, not only for his musical contributions of the past, but because younger people just getting into or hearing about him, and older fans, can easily go to youtube and search, "Thriller" "Billie Jean" etc, and see what it's all about.

From being a teenage college student, and talking to my peers about music, I can say that Prince would be INSANELY more popular if people could actually experience his work. I can't tell you how many times i will show someone a video of Prince shredding on guitar, or clips from purple rain, show them songs, and they are literally like "Wow... I had no idea..."

That's true DM! I sometimes play MJ around a pre-teen relative of mine who loves it. I explained to him the reason I am not so excited about a lot of pop stars of today is that they ALL copy MJ and I've grown up with the real deal for all my life. I think he understood what I was getting at. It's the same with Prince, as you have already said. People would clearly make the connection between today's artists and their influence from Prince (Maxwell, Bruno, etc.).

Imagined response from Prince:

Dear Fan,

Thank you for buying my records all these years. When I don't have a record out, you can catch me in concert. Other than that, I release a record when I see fit. You see, when I release something and my fans think it's no good, they blame only one person and that's me. So, if you don't mind, I'll release a record whenever I feel like releasing one. Sorry to keep you waiting, but I've already given the world so many albums most discographies can't keep track. Plus, these past 10 or 15 years, they did not seem to like what I had to offer, so excuse me for taking my sweet time. It's not like I need the money -- I'm filthy rich and baby you know it. Seriously, thanks for wanting an album of mine so badly, but realize that if I wanted to, I could stop putting out records and I would still be one of most prolific composers of all time. So there... (p.s.: why not listen to Positivity, from my terribly underrated Lovesexy album??). Thanks

Dear Prince:

I have been a fan of yours since I came out of the womb. I don't consider myself to be one of the so-called "fans" on this site that complains about anything and everything that you do. Your music has always been a part of my life and will forever be. But, I think it's time for you to consider that perhaps it might be beneficial for you not to be so tyrannical all the time about having your amazing performances online.

No, I am not suggesting that you open your vault and put everything on Youtube, that would be preposterous. I wholeheartedly agree that you deserve to earn a living from your music. I get it.

But, yesterday on Instagram, I saw a video clip of your Essence Festival performance being used as a promo for an entertainment group that I could clearly see was the official promoter of an airing of the Essence Fest on BET. I replayed it a few times and then saved it as a favorite.

Today, I went back into my account to replay it again and it was gone. I checked everywhere to make sure I hadn't moved it or deleted by mistake.

Prince, the clip was only six seconds. You were singing "Cool" and it was amazing.

But, even a six second clip by a promoter can't survive the wrath of the overzealous Purple Censors?

Back in 2007, I think I watched your Super Bowl halftime show an untold number of times online and was sitting around wondering when you would release a DVD so I could continue to do so. Now, all of the clips are gone forever.

This year, I saw an amazing Super Bowl performance and I'm sure you did too. Chances are, Bruno ain't gonna scrub his performances and his fans (including me) will be able to relive that moment for a very long time.

Prince, you're eccentric, a genius and a bit difficult to completely understand. But, help me see why you won't even give us six seconds of you anymore.

Sincerely,

17 Dayze
