.

Fair call, I usually buy from 'Ogs but hadn't checked eBay, there seems to be a few around for a semi-acceptable price. Shipping to Australia usaully kills it for me. Maybe I'm not that committed yet as there are still about a doz. albums I haven't heard yet (got a pkg of 5 discs on their way to me now). I'll get there, shit, I aint seen the Rain yet, how funny is that! Was 10 when it came out and ...

.

...probably getting a bit OT so, as you were: Crystal Ball love!

.

(This thread is the most uniting thread I've seen on here since I joined a few months ago, good to see).

@nonamesleft: As the CB album is out of print at the moment I think it would be perfectly acceptable to download it somewhere in digital format (if you could find it).

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I can understand why people love it, particularly musicians, put technical brilliance doesn't make a classic.

I like it, but I think its taken on mythical status without merit.

Prince could clearly have put this on SOTT, but preferred 'Its gonna be a beautiful night'. That says something.

Its a little too busy. Too many sound effects for my liking, and its the only Prince song where the random slam together of Prince and Clare Fisher is obvious. More than any other track, you can tell Prince is wedging unrelated orchestra left overs into a project.

What I do love is the randomness of ideas. Its almost three seperate songs thrown together.

I think it was more a matter of balancing the album (not putting it on SOTT) than quality.

Would be acceptabe to me, but haven't found it yet. Wasn't performed live huh? So its not on the handful of live boots that I've found.

I never said it wasn't released. I think it's a stretch to say that it was available to the mass public. Purple Rain, Sign of The Times etc, they were mass produced. Crystal Ball was somewhat limited.

Bigd74 said it wasn't released to the mass public. It was. It may not have sold as much, but that doesn't mean it wasn't released. TRC wasn't heard by the masses either; does that mean it was unreleased as well? Forget it... It was released, but a 4 CD set with a high price, limited run and minimal promotion is not something that is released to the mass public, even if it available to them.

^So to sum up, it was released, but it wasn't available. Still don't know if the Gold Experience was released, available, experienced or what.

I don't understand those distinctions either: either it's released or it's not. So OK a single that's only sold at concerts, I understand that it was distributed to an extremely limited audience only, but an album that was available in every record store of every major city in the developped world for months if not years, IDK... OK it was quickly OOP, OK not as many copies have been printed as, say, Rave, but still, it was widely available. As for the price well if everything that's more than 10 bucks is not "available" then the developped world is poorer than I thought lol

V10LETBLUES

what would be great, is if that horrible horrible CB that was ultimately released and made a mockery of the true CB album is NEVER EVER re-released. Make i like it never happened.

That way CB's legacy will not be forever tainted.

I'm going to rephrase what I said. It was released to the public, but not for mass consumption.

To the mass public, not for the mass public.

From a production and arrangement standpoint, then yes. From a melodic or performance standpoint.... Not really.
