Prince & Brian Wilson

...are the two most important artists (music), both in quality and quantity of their work.
What do you think, are they comparable? Of course, Prince is a much better performer,
but Wilson also has this god-given talents as a composer and musician.

In Brian's autobiography he compares himself to Prince. He was up to his standard between about '63-'66 but ultimately he couldn't hack it. Lot's of people have shone brightly for a few years like George Michale and Terence trent d'Arby but Prince managed it for a long time!!

what about comparing Prince to Paul McCartney? McCartney is a huge prince fan (or was even in the 90's)

Yeah. He said that Prince was the musicians choice of musician. Quote is from the 80s I think.

One of his favorite driving songs is Little Red Corvette...smile
He's even brought Prince up in his Flaming Pie cd (in the cd booklet) when he was driving in Minn.

Brian Wilson for a time was a god,I have several "Smile"
outtakes and the thing I would compare him to Prince the
most is the perfectionist aspect,"Surf's Up" is one of the
most brilliant songs EVER written

i worship both prince and brian wilson!!!
wilson's brilliance in no way ended in '66, any1 who thinks that is not dealing with facts and needs to listen to something else besides a greatest hits album... sunflower is an incredible record full of wilson genius ('70), as is surf's up ('71). '98s Imagination had some great tunes also...
the two men r certainly comparable in stature, innovation, production innovation, songwriting skills and grasp of a wide array of instruments. i kind of think of Parade as the Pet Sounds of the 80's, cos productionwise it is so unique and it retains a dreamlike, total coherence thru its duration
although prince has of course achieved more longevity, mainly because he is less crazy than BW
smile
yeah!
ak
ps fuck paul mccartney's opinion, he's a shit musician anyway and he hasnt written a good tune in decades...
pps any1 who comes back with some 'band on the run line' can just save their breath...
wink
