Your top 10 WORST Prince Outtakes/Vault songs ever?

My list in no order

Schoolyard
If I had a Harem (Rave unto the joy fantastic studio version)
Teacher Teacher (I'm sorry, but I found it too cheesy even by Prince standards)
Oobey Doop
Work That Fat
Eliminate the Negative (Too repetitive)
The many mixes of Gangsta Glam
Girl Power
Play
The Carmen Electra Outtakes

I wasn't too fond of the 90's.

What are your worst unreleased songs ever?

Didn't Prince offer "Hold Me" to Anita Baker? I think it's a nice song for someone else to record. It's too "ordinary" to appear on one of Prince's own albums.

It's on Jevetta Steele's album and it's a nice version

C'mon people: Power From Above and Carmen On Top are classics, and should have been on the official album.

They're so good I can ignore the 'lyrics'

For me the #1 worst outtake is Moonbeam Levels. To be fair, it's not that I DISLIKE the song. I just can't see why it's so deserving of the over-the-top praise people give to it. For years, I read about how amazing it was, and my expectations of it grew bigger and bigger. When I finally heard it for myself, I was very disappointed with it.

Well, it is a good song. It may not be over the top but it is higher on my chart of great unreleased tracks. The problem is how folks act like it is a die hard must have or those who describe it as the best song he has ever had. Now thats rediculous.

"Moonbeam Levels" is a very good song, but I think "Free" is the better choice for 1999.I think I'm in the minority, lol.

"Dance With The Devil"---this Batman outtake is a bore...a slow, aimless track that goes nowhere.I can see why it wasn't included on the Batman sountrack or film.

Some of these choices eek

Big Tall Wall eek - R u kidding me, thats an awesome song, he was singing it about Susannah. The lyrics are all sexist saying she must stay put, but he can mess around all he wants - because he is Prince are great. Its funny and well written.

.

Others here with us - its about ghosts, deep and eerie stuff.

.

But yeah Schoolyard totally, what a load of crap, this is a grown ass man singing all this juvenile booty shit 20 years before Jucy J and Lil Wayne.

. Gangster Glam mixes, never liked them, an extraordinarily weak song, I have 7 of these motherfuckers in my 1991 folder alone. Listened to 3 of them and decided no more!!!

. Work that Fat, offends me in so many ways, its enough fat people are demonised in society today already without this.

.Martikas Kitchen - hearing Prince sing these lyrics is quite scary, although I will admit its quite catchy.

. Do anything - please do nothing

. Power from above, seriously its like an ad for Icecream

. All Carmen Electra stuff period

. My name is Bart - no wonder it was kicked off any Simpsons album, its Bart talking and rapping over "My name is Prince"

.Poor little bastard - Yes the poor little bastards that have to hear this crap.

.

I could go on naming 90s stuff but I would run out of time. I love his 80s vault material, but not much of the 90s. There are a few like Mayte's version of "If I love u tonight" and "Dolphin mixes"

[Edited 8/8/14 0:29am]

"Others Here With Us" is a really interesting song...creepy and haunting! I like it alot.I don't think it would have fit on any album project...certainly not Parade or SOTT.

Big Tall Wall was a huge disapointment for me. Not saying the lyrics aren't fun to listen to, but as a song, it's a big mess. I could never imagine this ending up on an album. It's kinda like "The Ball"... the first draft, a VERY rough first draft of an idea put to audio tape. No way this is a finished song, or even close.

I agree. Too much build up by fans can end up a disappointing experience.

Had the same thing happen with Computer Blue (extended version). After

years of hearing how great the extended version was I heard a version

and was let down by what I finally heard. The problem was I imagined something

else. Its good - its just not GREAT. MINDBLOWING. A MASTERPIECE. Which

is what I expected.
