So everyone in the real world doesn't love Computer Blue? So there's a Vulture article looking at the 38 No. 1 Soundtracks since Purple Rain--if you want to look at it, go ahead (http://www.vulture.com/2014/08/number-one-soundtracks-since-purple-rain.html).
Here's the kicker, though--and the reason for my mentioning this thing at all. Their plan for the article is the following: "For each of the 38 albums we’re looking at, we’ll try to pick the biggest, weirdest, and on-the-nosest tracks, and tell you whether this was the kind of soundtrack you could listen to straight through, or whether there was a “Computer Blue” to skip past. "
Okay, maybe people "out there" don't love the song, but is it the one anyone "in here" skipped? I was mainly listening on vinyl back in the day (now I generally hear Purple Rain tracks when they pop up in a shuffle--I can't remember the last time I listened to the album), so I wasn't skipping anything, but I generally arrange errands out of the room during "Take Me With U"--certainly not during "Computer Blue."

Computer Blue is sheer brilliance! Seriously. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Perfect! Computer blue was one of the best prince tracks ever, people just love watered down garbage lyrics that are catchy so they can add their own stupid words in it and sing it off pitch Somebody please, please tell me what the hell is wrong?!

I never liked it!
I can report that many casual Prince listeners (but music lovers and creative artists) think it's lame.
But I do like the long version. It's a complete transformation for me by adding those other parts.
"Purple Rain" and "Darling Nikki" are GREAT. Solid gems in my opinion. Prince fans are just too overexposed to "Purple Rain" because he keeps doing it live. Imagine if he almost never did it live.
Don't think much of "Take Me With U" either.
Don't think much of the album version of "Baby I'm a Star". That one too becomes something quite different and more interesting in the live extended versions with their "suites" changes. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Computer blue is a good song if u ask me. Performed and recorded well...good production nice music and lyrics...just not my kinda gig. I don't loathe it. But I sure as hell don't dig it. I would die for u however...I hate the lyrics and the music and don't see why any one does. I am clueless as to why its popular and crjng in public when I hear it. And yes....I know I'm strange. I like to see it as an asset. There's so many normal people...strange can be refreshing sometimes... [Edited 8/3/14 0:43am]

Take me with you. Love the campy apples delivery...love it. Shhh....don't tell no one..but sometimes I skip purple rain. Sometimes its just too involved... Too much of a commitment for the mood I'm in...does that make sense. It sadly almost made me cry then other day. I ain't always got time for that section of my emotional spectrum. Ya feel me? Her...that's another good song title...section of my emotional spectrum. [Edited 8/3/14 0:48am]

'Computer Blue' is the best song Prince ever recorded in my opinion, it has everything I like about a song, a groovy vibe, an atmosphere and a kick ass guitar solo.

I love this song a lot, one of my all-time favorites. The anguished lyrics, guitar solos, Wendy and Lisa's introduction, hallway speech, everything is perfection. . It is a hard track to get into though. It's unusual and different than what you usually hear, I remember it took a while for it to grow on me. The only song on Purple Rain that's a notch below perfection, imo, is Baby I'm a Star. Fun, funky, etc... but not like the rest. Maybe do, just not like did before

Don't take it so seriously, the world of music websites and journalism in general is littered with pretentious wordsmiths with minimal knowledge, a few predictable things they admire and tue ability to type what they consider interesting prose.
Seriously, I could write about ballet or opera, even though I only know a tiny bit of what a real pro knows. These jobs don't pay that well, so you get a whole lot of amateurs that know little but write readable prose.
Someone should send this idiot the full version -- educate a fake critic here and there, it might help.

I also use to skip Take me with u but I enjoy it more live. The other song I use to skip is Lets go crazy, that song should have been a b-side and not on the album imo Welcome 2 The Dawn

Fantastic song. But what is it really about? Pre-internet, pre-computer porn, pre-computer dating... Could he be singing about jacking off to a nude bitmap image on his ZX Spectrum (insert cassette, make sure volume is at the right level, play the tape, wait 2 minutes, bitmap image loaded)? .

I think the extended version of Computer Blue makes the song a tad easier to understand because of the lyrics in the extra verses. But I dont know the full point and meaning of the song. This Could Be Us But U Be Playin...

How can you listen to Darling Nikki if you don't hear Computer Blue first? Those two songs are a mini suite within Purple Rain. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
