"This Could Be Us" is pretty good actually!

I have been listening to the snippet again after reading the "Paisley Park listening party" sticky in the Concerts forum. Although I already quite liked it the first time I had heard it, I am now really looking forward to hear the full version.

-

It has a catchy chord scheme, a good melody, the subby synthbass is nice and deep and the beat sounds modern.

It doesn't seem to cover much new ground, but at least the production doesn't sound as stale as most of his post 2000 output.

-

What do y'all think? Is this song a new Prince classic waiting to be unleashed, or just another 'Prince by the numbers' track?

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I know, it is only a little part of the song, but based on what we have now I suspect this can be a pretty good Prince track. I would like to hear more of it, which hasn't been the case with most of the 3EG stuff I have heard.

I recall someone saying it was better than the snippet sounded. They heard it at the listening party. Im excited for it to be released. I dont know if it will be a classic but I know that it might be some peoples favorite song.

The snippet reminded me of Go. Therefore I'm really looking forward to it.

It's shame we haven't had a longer snippet or a mor detailed description of the song.

Normally Prince's r&b tracks are hit or miss for me, but I could tell upon the first listen with good earphones that it's a hit. Normally I don't put "snippets" on repeat, but I played that snipped out for about 3-4 days straight.

Change it one more time..

I'm certain there will be at least 30 to 50 more listening parties before the album is released, so I guess that gives me a chance to attend one and make up my mind. He may as well have 20 listening parties each month for each of the 36-72 months until the album is released.

It is a bit of an industry standard to have a listening party a few days or at most weeks before an album's release. It seems like there have been at least 15 of these, and they date back to late 2012 to early 2013. It's pushing 2015...I'm not impatient...just realistic. The pattern is an astonishing large amount of listening parties for something that is beginning to look like it won't be released at all. I'm happy we keep getting singles and free songs on cloud, etc...but after the horrible re-recoding of the Breakdown, it simply gives Prince more time to screw with good tracks.

It is a bit worrying that it is taking such a long time, but I think -in the end- if he can't get a good deal to release a new album Prince will release a new album anyway. All musicians like to share their creations with the world, and I am sure Prince will give in at some point.

It was me. I heard the full version at Paisley Park.

Very good song, not quite classic but good ballad.

The more impressive song was "Another Love"

I'll keep an eye out for Another Love and hopefully someday I'll get to hear it in full. wink

Well, I suppose there are always some exceptions that confirm the general rule!

Another Love is a cover of the Alice Smith song, so you can listen to that in the meantime...

Sounds like an 80's TV show theme song to me.
