Umm where the Purple Rain 30th anniversary remastered CD??? I done heard all this hype about now that he owns his masters that the version was gonna come out with unreleased material this summer. Here summer is almost over and still nothin'. What's up, is it coming out or is our man gonna continue to hold it captive for another 30 years? |

It is hidden deep within Bullshit Mountain, guarded by the Purple Dragon himself. |

The person who told you it was being released this summer
was wrong. No release date has been announced. Live with it. |

Who cares? Don't you already have all the songs, both officially released and bootlegged?
I don't get this obsessing over remasters. I already have those songs and they sound just fine through all the systems I have.
Do you think you're going to hear some bass line or guitar part you've never heard before? |

.
The other day I was playing Prince at work from my iPod. My co-workers requested another artist due to the inconsistencies in sound quality from one shuffled track to the next, mainly meaning that the older, unremastered tracks sound like crap. We'd be grooving pleasantly to Take Me With U then all jump in shock at the beginning of a gem like Ol Skool Company at jet engine decibels higher. Its an odd paradigm as the newer, less interesting tracks sound better on devices than the classic, amazing tracks. |

I get that, but I've always felt that the new stuff was recorded too loud. So the old stuff wouldn't need to be remastered - the new stuff needs to be UNmastered, LOL.
Someone posted a great chart showing how Prince's stuff has been recorded louder and louder and louder over the years.

Prince is SMARTER that you. He only announced the Purple Rain Remaster to get the public's attention focused on his hot new Rita O'rielly single, Breakfast Can't Wait.. I mean The Breakup, or was it This Some BS from his new Prince album, I mean 3EG album... I mean attention for his new line of Purple Rain dishes?!? Or was it 3EG dishes? Look the point is Prince announced the Purple Rain remaster to get your fucking attention, because he's a legend and a fucking genius, ya' know, and now that he's 'clean' he has no other way to get money from your filthy-minded azz.. but now that he's got it, well, he's going to do something with it... eventually.. but either way he couldn't give 2 shits about a Purple Rain remaster because he doesn't look back... and just maybe he doesn't want the ghost of Purple Rain outshining all his new shit, I mean stuff, no cuss.. *sigh* |

Let's face it. He's recording louder and louder because his fans are getting older and older. |

The good news: they're done, and ready to go.
The bad news: you don't get one unless you sign up for a lifetime subscription to The Watchtower. PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman! |

Oh great... Now it's OUR fault... for not fucking dying. This makes sense though. I can imagine Prince, working on MPLSound, in a stunned disbelief, "So they didn't like "Turn Me Loose"? But wha-... You know what? Turn this shit up. That's it. If only they could hear it better..." |

Can't speak for anyone else, but there is a whole lot of stuff he HAS released that I enjoy on a daily basis, if the other stuff shows up, great, if not, I still have a boatload of released material to enjoy. Sweatin what will or won't be released on a daily basis is an exercise in masochism.
Peace

Why yes, you might.
The unreleased stuff you've heard are almost exclusively rough mixes passed out on cassettes to various people for various reasons. Miles Davis was offered a cassette rough mix for something they were working on and he decided he just wanted to hold up a tape recorder in the air.
My point is, if rough mixes are made for musicians to learn and then come in a play a part, (or for Prince to drive around and listen to) then in most cases they are probably not finished. He may have added parts later, had some parts muted when making the rough mix, etc.
While there may NOT be new parts, the probability is high that there are parts you've never heard. It's been said countless times that Prince records a ton of tracks and then starts muting tracks that aren't needed in the mixing process. We've most likely never heard final mixes on any of these and I'd say the odds are about equal that you'll hear both new parts, (old but muted in the rough mixes) and old parts you're used to hearing muted. |

You might be right. I'm trying to recall from memory what was on the Crystal Ball set for which I already had "rough" mixes. One that comes to mind is "Movie Star". I can't really say there's a big difference between the old/new versions, but I do have only the Crystal Ball version on my iPhone.

^Mine too.
A lot of us are assuming things about what may be included in this package. I, for one, am willing to bet real money there will be no outtakes/previously unreleased material on this presumed reissue.
Guess we will see. |

There will be Electric Intercourse, hopefully some other stuff aswell. There isn't many circulating outtakes from PR so we'll have to wait. I'll be happy with just Electric... She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo
