How Would You All Feel.....

If when a Prince "posthumous" album ever came out (& let's hope this is a LOOOOOOOOOOONNNNGGGGGG time from now....we need ya Prince...stay healthy, mane!! nod] it is "contemporized" by whatever "hot producer of the moment"? How offended would you be??? Would a record label even attempt that?

What are the odds that a "posthumous" Prince album would ever come out????

I would be pissed. Point. Blank. Period. I dont like any of MJs recent albums because of the production. Its like once they get producers to work on the songs, the original artist vision is gone. I dont want that to happen with P. Just leave his music alone when that time comes.

I think the market would be flooded with whatever others thought Prince should've, could've done. Then again, Prince being Prince there might be so many clauses put on his stuff until only underground stuff will be availability.

I wouldn't like it.

As long as they offered an album like MJ's album, where you had a seperate CD of the original tracks in their original form, I wouldn't mind so much.

I mean, it would probably sound much better than Prince's own update-- 1990-The New Mess

no big deal really .. prince has already ruined a lot of his music by trying to sound modern .. the garbage production they gave MJ would not be a far cry from what prince still does to his music

at least with MJ we can still see MJ as innocent in terms of why the music got butchered .. its like .. oh that is sad that they did that to his music .. with prince its like .. WTF is wrong with you prince

I dunno, Prince tends to shelve finished songs, not demos. The MJ thing, for better or worse, wasn't based on stuff he had completed and was happy with.

But why would he be worried about life after death!?

He has no one to leave his fortune with.

So I tend to disagree.

.

I honestly dont think there will be any kind of Posthumous Albums (Maybe this could have been his thinking behind wanting those masters back so badly so that no one else can get hold of his work in the future to do such a thing?)

.

It's something I have thought about a little and I was thinking maybe Two potential situations.....

.

1) Prince decides that nothing ever will be done with any of his work and it all gets left in the Vault/destroyed.

.

2) Prince Pre-compiles albums himself ready for release the way he intends them to be released.

.

Prince being Prince wanting full control, maybe the 2nd option would be something that he may do?

This is all BS majors marketing, I'm so against it. Nothing against remixes, it's rare but they can sometimes be great reinterpretation of a song or even better than the original, but that usually happens when done with love by people who want to give a personal interpretation of a song for the love of music not money, not when it's being done by a bunch of assholes trying to make it sound lame enough so it has its chances in the Top 10 sad

do you believe Prince will delete his vaults then, before he dies, none of the songs will see the light of day...??

I hope this won't happen........ cry cry cry

The only one time he spoke about this, he clearly indicated that his unreleased work would be available for release after his death. Of course he may change his mind or he may have lied but once again we have people speculating out of nothing, just projecting their own ideas on reality. The only FACT we have regarding this is that prince said the material would be available and he never ever even hinted that he may be tempted to have it destroyed.

correction: he currently has no children to whom he may leave his fortune.

that doesn't mean he has no one to whom he may leave his assets. so i suppose, long story short, i respectfully disagree with both of you. smile

Hah, what a horrible idea.

I don't think they'd ask people to "contemporize" his work the same way they did with MJ. I'm pretty sure even the record execs know how much he's valued among musicians and wouldn't try to add trancey synths or anything like that to his songs. Taking out parts that he himself played and replacing them with some simplistic three note ditties by a "hot" young producer would be pretty absurd. Yeah, sure, I could see some sort of "big names" being asked to contribute just for the sake of hyping up any upcoming release, but then again, I don't think there would be that huge a demand for a posthumous "new album" by him because he's always had so much product out there.

For that matter, he doesn't really leave his songs at a "demo stage" too often like MJ usually did. Prince usually completes a song and then moves onto another one. That MJ release happened because most of those demos sounded pretty weak without the additional production (not that I think the end-result was a very successful one in artistic terms).

He has A LOT of unfinished songs in the vault also. He says he sits on some to see how they match for albums so it would be such a disservice to hear someone else but P finish them

I reckon Prince will have at least 20 proper albums ready to go (after he moves to a higher plane!)

but the rest of the vault will probably be released as 'Vault/Outtake' Volumes. (all 100+ of them!)

Nah Josh is there for that lol

Like you say about the demand though, there wont be much demand for new Prince not like MJ where its well into the millions and its well worth them spending a ridiculous amount of money on promotion (Like that hologram). I think his classic albums would enter the charts but not sure how well an album with other people producing it would do. MJ still sold huge volumes when alive and had he released a new record at any point it would have sold alot. Its not the same thing with Prince his absence from commercial charts/stations etc for so long alot of people stuggle to grasp that he's still doing his thing.
