Princes OSCARS Performance of Purple Rain Is it true that there is absolutely no recording on the internet of Prince and the Revolution's performance at the Oscars of Purple Rain? It was a classic and I got chills watching it.
If I remember, I saw it on YouTube years ago. But I looked today and couldn't find anything. Also can't find anything on the internet.
Can anyone fill me in on why this is?
Thanks. Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

Never happened. You're probably thinking of the American Music Awards performance.

OHHH. It was at the end of the show, which ever show it was. I thought sure it was an Oscar performance. What a shame.
I just looked and can't find that either.

And there are recordings of the AMA performance all over the place.

Wasn't it also at the Grammys?

It was the AMA's in 85.
And he did it during the Grammys in 2004 before Beyonce came on and ruined it for everone.

Really? I'm quite certain he performed twice - once during the show and then as the show ended and went to credits.

Nope, only once at the Grammy's. TRUE BLUE

All I wanna know is which performance did he perform Purple Rain, and people lost their minds. they were just sitting there staring at him, dumbfounded.
Anyone know? Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

There was only one awards show where he performed Purple Rain that year, and it was the American Music Awards.

I think I've seen the clip. Is it the one where he's wearing all white lace or something? He looked so "pretty" Trolls be gone!

That was Baby I'm A Star from the Grammys. He had on a long green/blue coat for the American Music Awards performance of Purple Rain. He did not play at the Oscars, he only accepted an award. TRUE BLUE

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up Trolls be gone!

YESS!! That's the one I mean. I wonder what show it was. People here have said the AMA's. I can't find it. Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

Thank you guys. Problem solved. It was the AMA's. I just watched it. What a treat. I cried again.
The reason I know it was this one because 3 things stood out for me when I watched it back in the day as a kid, 1. When he knocked down the mic stand, I never forgot that 2. When it went purple at the end, such a statement 3. His solo ripped that stage to shreds and I just know everyone got chills.
I was so proud of him being a young musician.
I guess a 4th thing is I remembered the audience actually moved a bit waving their hands. AMA audiences then were like statues.
I think why I thought he wore white because he was such a bright light. But the energy was so high on that stage. You can feel it watching it now. And Bobby Z's face said everything throughout the entire performance.
I need to watch this again and again.
Just nothing else compares these days. For me anyways.
It's funny how I thought it was the Oscars. Don't know why. Wrong.
Thanks again.
