Q : "The cold weather in Minneapolis keeps the bad people away", who are they - what exactly did Prince mean by that..?

By memory.... Prince once said something like:

"I like the cold weather, it keeps the bad people away"....

My guess is, he was referring to recordlabel executives, Prince wanted them to keep away from Minneapolis....

Am I right, or.. question

But, what exactly did he mean by saying that.

( I can't remember when or where I did read this, it could be during "the war" with WB.? Maybe earlier..? )

It can just be filed under, 'shit Prince says'.

I wouldn't read too much into it. And whatever he meant when he said it doesn't matter as he's changed his mind about 76 times since then. lol

RIP sad

my guess...most shootings/stabbings/robberies are done outside....when it gets that cold...the bad people stay inside...guess they gotta stay warm too!

Well, in all honesty...

Ever try to RUN on or in snow a mile high?

Convenience, even in crime is a mental condition in that the body senses knowing fully aware; that, if you do a crime ~ most likely~ in snow or just the frigid temperatures... will, be your Karma demise, quicker.

In HOT weather KARMA is still there: and you will get caught, but you may have more time to come clean or fall sharp.

A stone thrown on a pond skids along... a stone thrown in water, drowns.

The key IS in what I said. "Don't throw the stone of evil and you won't have to chase your own mind later."

Gangsters and mafia tend to stick to New York and LA, so I guess that's what he meant.

It's just a saying. He didn't invent it.

We have the same here in Northern Europe. It's just a statistical fact that more crimes happen in areas with warmer climates. I won't discuss the various reasons for that to any real degree, but I suppose what the saying itself if trying to convey is that bad people don't like the winter and prefer to live in areas where they can "take it easy".

lots of people in minnesota say that, not just prince. "winter keeps the riff-raff out".

mostly, we say this to convince ourselves that we're not crazy. we stay put, dig snow and make it work. we don't run away from a blizzard like those riff raff down in florida, hauling ass down south at the first frost. winter is good for our character.

plus, not everyone can make it here. a person has to eat right, live sensibly and wear really thick socks to avoid getting frostbite. riff raff don't even have socks.

Yep, exactly what he meant. Crime rate in MN always plummets as soon as it gets cold which it is for 6 months out of the year. You're not going to leave your house and hang out on a corner looking for trouble when it's 20 below.

I also would say it was aimed at industry people. Most of them are used to LA weather and would NOT make it in 40 below temps. I doubt you would ever see many paps hanging around on the street trying to get a pic in that weather. Trust me, it's BRUTAL.

Yeah I also assumed he meant them people obssessed by money, sex and drugs that live in LA and Miami, i.e. people from the show business industry in general, because those people will live where the sun and the beaches are and wouldn't want to spend half a day in a a cold, isolated city they probably perceive as being a shithole.

Moved here in 90' and was managing several acts, we were all young pups. Our first promoter told us, "fella's it's September come Oct. you gotta stop fucking around in these clubs & shit, and find something to hold on to for ohhh about 8 months LOL". He wasn't lying either, that first April was when we realized that "Sometimes it Snows in April" was not profound, and it wasnt no damned "sometimes" either.

I thought he meant it keeps the LA paparazzi away. No one is going to Minnesota in the cold to snap a pic of one superstar who lives there. Kepps folks out of his business opposed to living in LA and being in the tabloids 24/7
