There are several parts in the song where I am about to start instinctively singing Ooour looove's gotta bee cruuuciaaaal (for example, at around 1:15).

The whole piece just sounds like a sketchier take on what later became "Crucial" to me. I am aware others might have different type of associations.

Good points, for sure. I guess where Crucial sounds like a typical (although great) mid-tempo ballad from him, something about this tune is just different. Maybe it's the whimsicalness of it. It does remind me a bit of I Wish U Heaven, though.
