Isn't it "Gett Off"...?

I don't recall there being a direct JB sample in there? But I could be wrong.

I never heard of any sampling from James Brown on this one

The Part 1 in the title is likely an homage to songs by artists like James Brown, whose tracks were often split into segments for single releases, rather than an indication of other parts to the song.

I bet there IS more to the song, but, "Part 1" just fits better as is in the album.

It can be an homage AND an indication of there being more to the song, no?

wink

Of course neither of us know for sure...

I interpret it as both a homage to James Brown et. al. and as an indication that this is the beginning of the proverbial "work" to deconstruct the "digital garden" to which the narrator refers in the preceding segue.

in case you wonder about the "Gett Off" sample,

Look in the "Gett Off" music video:

Prince is playing the "sample" (by James Brown / Mother Popcorn).. on a grammophone/ very old turntable, during the video.

I hope I remember this right..

You're absolutely correct. smile However, Militant is likely referring to "The Work, Part 1" which contains no such loop.

It could be that the "pt.1" thing refers to how he feels "we've got a lot of work to do" and how it's supposed to be a very long process (essentially spreading what the JWs believe is a "truthful" interpretation of The Bible), as well as being a reference to some of the old funk stuff like others have pointed out already.

Yes, that's pretty much what i was getting at (albeit a bit less eloquently) in my first post in the thread.
