I didn't say I didn't have empathy for anyone. I'm an extremely empathetic person, but this isn't U2 or the Rolling Stones or some "band", Prince is the artist here, and the people he invites into his world come and go, and if they were playing for many of other big name musicians, it'd very likely be the same.. Its the nature of the beast. If you have carved out some stability in the music industry you're lucky. Not everyone has that. Your post was "delusional" because you were writing as if Prince owe's THEM something for raising their profile and paying them way better than they were getting paid before hand. That doesn't make any sense. Do you have any clue how many people would love to step in their shoes? Change it one more time..

I absolutely don't see why they would need this record to be out to move on, once again they're not singers in need for a breakthrough record. The (musical) world knows who they are and what they do and there are already quite a number of studio and live tracks by them and floating around: if they want to move on and work with/for someone else or release solo records I don't see how PE being released would make any difference to the evolution of their careers. But anyway in the end we just have very different interpretations of the same facts and so be it ^^ We'll c what the girls say about it the day they're out of world and only then will we know how they felt about this... Who cares. Your envy isn't a substitute for walking in their shoes. I can't imagine what it would be like to audition for Prince, get hyped up as his first real band since NPG and then .... end up just a touring musician with a potentially shelved album. You know the expression Mo' money more problems. Well, it's true. At the end of the day you can turn the Prince volume down, or stop reading the interviews, but they're stuck with one eccentric boss, and I'm sure it's a dream and a nightmare, both.

You wouldn't want to ride out the wave and hope to build off it? See, you already wrote them off as session players....they have a chance to become Wendy and Lisa, or Dr. Fink, but you just shrug that off and see their future as being part of the graveyard of Prince has beens that never get out of his shadow. Most of us would want more for ourselves.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
What graveyard? Jesus dude Kat Dyson only worked with for what? 6 months? Even since she's released an EP and worked with Dave Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Natalie Cole, TM Stevens, Cindy Blackman, Joi, George Clinton, Musiq Soulchild, Celine Dion, Mick Jagger, Sly & Robbie, Bernie Worrell and countless others... There's a whole world beyond once the doors are opened... Most of 's ex bandmembers have had great careers as both sessions musicians and backing bandmembers after they left his band, some of them releasing a solo album on an indie label every once in a while as well... Just because they're off OUR fans radars don't mean they work at McDonald's . I don't know what u mean by "becoming Wendy & Lisa or Dr. Fink" actually. Do u mean important in his artistic evolution? Well (if this is what u mean) maybe but from the look of things that particular role is what Josh is getting at the moment, being the new Kirk Johnson or something. I don't see the release of a "3rdEyeGirl" album as being so important in the end. I mean they're his backing band, whether they sing or not or whether they get a pet-project album or not they're there, and one could argue that the 3EG shows have been the most important change of direction in 's live shows ever since the ONA tour so they already left a remarkable mark. The ONA Tour band never had a "solo" album as a band and they left a mark too. They don't need a "solo" album to build off what they're doing now. I mean all the better for it if they do but for the whole world and the music industry it'll will just be another album under a moniker and it won't make any difference. . My opinion, 4 what it's worth... A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Of course you don't. But they'er just session musicians right? Oh sorry, I'll speak your language. They could be Eric Leeds. Whether they left their mark on Prince or Prince's core fans and whether they get to see their expectations fulfilled are two very different things. In the same time span 3eg's record got delayed, other Prince bands had released multiple records to the world. But you think they should just be happy to have met the man, and get a Paisley Park paycheck..and I'm sure they are happy about it, but I can also see what a crappy situation this is. In a lot of ways he used them.

Now you're just talking stupid. Im not a musician so I have no reason to be envious. Im talking about professional musicians. And why do you care so much? It's not your life. As with ANY employment it goes BOTH ways. If you don't like who you work for you find a different job. Simple as that. The fact is, you have ZERO clue what their experience is like, and at least amongst some of his band, they often are on twitter talking about how great their job is, so your speculation is nothing but that... speculation. Dragging this lame ass thread on longer because you for some reason can't understand that simple fact is sad. Change it one more time..

You also don't have any reason to insult people on the internet or interject your halfwit opinions, but you do that too. It's cool. I wasn't speaking to you, I was speaking to those who know the business, and can feel for another human. It's the thread. Don't like it? Don't involve yourself in the theme of the discussion. By the way, Prince puts his core band mates under contract. You don't seem to get that.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Of course he uses contracts. As any smart person would. And what does that change? If they were signed directly to a record company they'd have a contract too. So what's your point? No one uses contracts without termination clauses. You're still pulling at straws dude.. Change it one more time..

I don't feel sorry for either. The fans are the real people who are suffering. الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

"If you don't like who you work for you find a different job" followed by "of course he uses contracts. As any smart person would". Do you always tie yourself up into a logic pretzel? I hope Prince writes a song about empathy so you learn of it's importance. In the meantime, this talk isn't going anywhere with you.

I sorta feel bad for the 3rdEyeGirls because,if history is any guide,we know what's gonna happen next.
Their album will finally be released,it will probably flop,Prince will get bored with them and move on.
It's happened with other Prince proteges and in some cases,we never heard from those people again.

If you don't like the terms of an agreement you either negotiate prior to modify it or you dont sign. The terms were obviously good enough that they agreed. And you think people don't include term-review clauses in their contracts? If I as a business man am investing money in a project contingent on your presence, yes you will be obligated to me for the period of the project, but if things aren't working out, I will have a clause to release you if I see fit. But the girls are smart and have their husbands now working with PP, so that they now have even greater job security than they would if they were just "on contract". While you're free to "feel sorry for them" I doubt they're in the slightest bit unhappy as long as the money keeps coming in. [Edited 7/21/14 9:54am] Change it one more time..

Maybe "temporary band" is a better description for 3EG. I'm sure they know at some point, Prince will move on to something else, and so will they.

. Well, I guess P doesn't know much about the music industry then. When he left WB the first time around, he led us to believe he'd be releasing music that was "hot off the press" so to speak, on a frequent basis. But apparently that isn't possible, or at least not as easy as he thought... "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

They also dont really qualify as session musicians. lets face it, if they were not (hot) girls they pronbably wouldnt be there. That is not to say they dont have talent, they do (saw them both nights at DNA) especially now after 2 years on the road almost every night.
But session musicians can play ANYTHING.
Maybe Ida is in that league, but not the other 2.
Donna can shred but so can lots of people.
Feeling sorry for them is stupid. They had a 3 year run few could imagine, and will emerge better musicians with more prospect for a career than anyone.
as for the studio execs, I do feel kind of sorry for them.
On one hand you have to sign P, its like signing Mozart.
On the other hand, he is not the easist Artist to live with.
Who gets the VAULT?
That is where the $ is in 10 years.
