Prince's deal with Kobalt is for Kobalt Label Services - ie, the label is NPG Records and KLS handle the distribution, pressing, etc.
It seems like the Warners deal is for a Prince solo album.
Of course, anything could happen. |

Could have--but since entering Kolbart into Google gets me stuff about the Kolb Art Gallery, and there's a very slight possibility that Prince could have gotten a deal with them, it could have caused confusion... and besides, what the heck is wrong with getting things correct? And why smart off to someone when they fix it?
Now, my changing the "of" to "have"--that's a (former) English teacher thing to do. However, I wouldn't have done it if you hadn't asked for it.

. There is no way WB will allow P to release anything outside of their deal. © Bart Van Hemelen

It is a valid assumption based on the history of big labels, though. Especially in these times competition is up or rather the profitablity is under pressure. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

If the album is labelled as 3rd Eye Girl.....not Prince. Isn't that how it worked with the NPG Exodus and Goldnigga albums? Also, they obviously know that the Kobalt deal preceded theirs.

And if I understand right, they were very pleased with that approach... so it should work fine.

. Those were tolerated by WB. The current situation is completely different. Exodus was slated for release by WB in the USA until P decided that he couldn't shut up and had to badmouth WB in an interview, which was their one demand WRT Exodus. .
. So what? The Kobalt deal hasn't bore fruit in all this time, and now there's suddenly an urgent need to release the 3EG record? It ain't happening; just look at how the 3EG record was heavily promoted earlier this year and then completely dropped, and the Euro tour became yet another Greatest Hits show. It is patently obvious WB demanded exclusivity. The only reason Prince is now bringing up 3EG again is because he wants to bitch about WB. © Bart Van Hemelen

. No they weren't. You really think a major label is happy that one of their artists is breaking their rules and releasing product under a pseudonym? WB only tolerated that because they hoped it would reduce the temper tantrums, but they never were happy about that. .
. It's been his focus on and off. More off than on. . And the valid position is the one in the WB contract, which will include an exclusivity clause. © Bart Van Hemelen

Add a missing emoticon expressing sarcasm if you have to have one. The problem is that sarcasm with an indicator is no longer sarcasm, so I hate putting them on. I thought the statement was so ridiculous that it would be appreciated in the spirit intended.
As to whether the WB contract "will include an exclusivity clause"--you're speculating the same as everyone else. If I were them I would have gotten it, if possible. But that doesn't mean they did. Prince obviously would have been coming at things from a position in which he didn't want one, and would have been fighting for that. Neither one of us knows who won that battle.

. I've seen nuttier ideas promoted on this site as valid. .
. Considering that he's bitching about WB being slow in releasing music, and considering that all talk of a release of 3EG's record disappeared as soon as the WB deal was announced... . Plus: Prince's position wasn't the strong one in that negotiation. He wanted those masters, and WB's only concessions seems to be that they'll release a new Prince album along with the PR remaster. © Bart Van Hemelen
