After the first weeks I listen 2010 less and less. There are some nice tracks on, but it lacks the "album" vibe. Imho.

No, those songs would water it down immensely. I'm happy that they 're not on the album.

I think Rich Friends fits nicely on it. I've not heard Laydown extended.
Change it one more time..

Add Hot Summer and Same Page Different Book, and there is 20ten deluxe [Edited 7/14/14 9:55am] She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

Love this album, there's a couple songs that don't blow me away, but overall I feel this is a strong album if not just for Future Soul Song alone.

It was kind of Mplsound, Pt. II. I like Mplsound much better but 20ten is a decent little album with a few great songs in it (Lavaux is THE jam!). I've always found that there was something anecdotic in this album, though: Mplsound was wild and sexy, 20ten was more like a collection of demos from the vault but I'm sure glad as hell to have it instead of it rotting in the vault A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

When it first came out I made a playlist with my favourite songs from 20ten and mplssound and it played pretty well in my opinion

I love the album. I like it far better than MPLSound but not nearly as much as Lotusflow3r. I play it often. I think the songwriting is excellent and his vocals sound energized. If I had a complaint, it's that it sounds like something he performed by himself (which he's done in the past, but this actually sounds like it).

I agree with this, it's flat and lifeless. I don't particularly like the album, but the couple of songs on it that are halfway decent sound empty and dull. . It's another poor post-Warners directionless effort overall and those linn drum samples are a red herring - the album I find it shares most in common with sonically is NPS. Another wank-job put out just because and for no other reason.

Nope, it doesn't hold up well. It's a sucky album which contains only two or three songs worthy of repeated listening.

Boring and forgettable album with only 3 songs that I still listen to sometimes Welcome 2 The Dawn

Based on what I've heard recently, it could be his last "good" album. As far as post-2000 output I like it better than everything except maybe Lotusflower.

a classic | |

I dig it for the most part, with the exception of Future Soul Song and Walk in Sand. Beginning Endlessly and Act of God are two of my favorit post-2000 P tracks.

Of the ten songs I like five. Which isn't bad IMO to only like 50%. If this was the 1990's and there were singles with b-sides and remixes accompanying it I would probably think very highly of 20Ten. It coulda been a contender. Also I think having Laydown as a hidden track was not helpful.

While I don't like New Power Soul any mire than you do, I think it was put out for a reason: he had just hooked up with Larry & Chaka and wanted to put that good feeling of playing with them on record. Plus showing they were free now!

Yeah, that sentence could've been worded better - the "Another wank job put out for no reason" was aimed at 20Ten, sowee.

You guys are a bunch of funny people... When songs sound stripped down, you think they need production. When they have production they are deemed overproduced and you wish for a stripped down sound.

I, personally, said nothing about adding anything to the songs on this album. I referred to how poorly the album is mixed & mastered. It sounds flat. There are no dynamics whatsoever. The "mix" sounds amateurish [if it's even mixed or mastered @ all], so it takes away from the music. Maybe you need to learn what "Mixing" & "Mastering" of music means. الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

That is not what I was saying, nor what I meant. All songs that have been released in some format have "production". But there is a difference between let's say a bedroom producer who records a nice song in a nice arrangement, but is still sounds flat and unprofessional because of a poor mix and poor processing of the individual sounds, and poor mastering (or no mastering at al). A professional artist is either able to give his song a good mix and the right (amount of) effects to make it sound full and professional (like most stuff released by big artists), or hires a pro to do this for him. - A stripped down (sparse) arrangement can still have a full sound, often achieved by the use of reverb and delay and other effects. "Kiss" and "Black Sweat" are good examples IMHO. The drums sound fat and interesting in those tunes because they were processed with effects in useful ways, whereas the drum sound on 20Ten is much flatter an dryer. Less processed and less fat sounding. - An example of overproduction would be "Thunder", or some songs from albums like "LoveSexy" and the "Symbol" album. In songs like that the arrangements are too busy, with lots of added bells and whistles, which detracts from the basic quality of these songs. IMHO of course... - Basically what I (and probably Tittypants) mean is that 20Ten is quite a good album as far as arrangements and songwriting is concerned, but it could have been better if the overall "sound" (mix/effects/mastering) was done in a different way. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Overall I like the album But I'm the type of person that tries to find a cohesive direction if possible especially in connection ot the title/title track. 20Ten and the songs I don't find a connection direction over all. But I do prefer this album over Minneapolis sound I listen to songs from this album regularly

Even more simple: - Underproduction: when a song is not done justice because it hasn't been arranged and/or mixed (including effects) and mastered right. It sounds flat and not "alive" enough, and that diminishes the enjoyment that you can get from that song. - Overproduction: too many bells and whistles in the arrangement and/or too much processing and effects used in the mix of the song. And/or bad mastering (loudness war). To the point where it distracts from the actual song in an annoying way. - Good production: the song is done justice because it was arranged, mixed and mastered in a pleasant way, with enough processing involved to make it sound "alive" and professional, without unnessecary stuff in the mix or arrangement that distracts from the actual song.
