The reason is Prince.

What I thought was interested in why both his exes next relationships were with men who were known for there sexual prowess. And I could only come up with 2 possible reasons. Either sex with Prince is sooooo good that you have to get with someone like Tommy Lee or Eric Benet. Or sex with Prince is sooooo bad that you have to get with someone like Tommy Lee or Eric Benet.

As far as Vanity is concerned, i've never heard of any association with Rick James, Rick had the Mary Jane Girl's, but of course, Vanity was not in any configuration of that group.

Sheila E certainly got gigs and such before she came into Prince's organization, but no one would argue that it was during her association with Prince that she became a star in her own right. I've heard of no romantic involvement with George Duke or any others that she worked with musically before Prince, Sheila is a professional.

I don't think that Prince lost any of them to rock stars. It seems that after their relationship were over, it was just the direction the women choose to go.

I thought it was during their tour together, Prince stole her away.

That said, between gods ears, and Shiela's tight yellow pants, I'd doubt Prince was the only musician she dated.

Sounds like the women just don't want to go from an international music icon to dating joe regulars as soon as the relationship has ended.

I wouldn't say Prince is the "loser" in those scenarios in any case. Does anyone think guys like Nikki Sixx or Tommy Lee have the type of criticial acclaim and respect by other musicians as Prince does? Eric Bennett does have some, but not that much in the end. Besides many of these guys apparently had a Prince fixation themselves. Tommy Lee said in an interview that Prince was his favourite and it was mindblowing to hear all the stories Mayte told him about Prince. Eric Bennett's obviously tried to mimic Prince on a few songs (to a degree that it's actually silly, if you ask me).

The folklore is Prince stole Vanity from Rick during the American Music Awards, and I think the year attributed is 79', but that sounds off to me.

There are also stories she was just a groupie, and had been with Andre Cymone before Prince.

Also some questions about the timeline of when Vanity dated Adam Ant but his bio suggests it was before Rick James.
