Thank you! Come on now, any true, long time Prince fan can tell you that Prince (especially the Prince back in the day) hasn't exactly treated his fans with the utmost kindness and respect. In fact, I have been told many times by many people, whom are not Prince fans, that they don't see how anyone can be a fan of his because he is an a**hole and treats his fans like crap, and as a fan, I've always defended him to them. I mean even people who aren't fans knows how Prince can be, and knows that he has done some rude things in his life, and some of them have been to those who love him, and call themselves his fans. |

I'm a pretty young prince fan and I am well aware of the love / hate relationship that comes with being a prince fan. Some of his off the Wall antics and decisions are rather hard to swallow but I don't love the man any less. |

I looooove his music....usually. I could do without the high heels and mascara. I am also certain that Prince gets shit on his hand on rare occasion when he wipes his ass. There will also be shitta songs like animal kingdom floating around. There will also be songs like F.u.n.k. floating around. |

I'm a big fan, but he totally deserves most of the criticism he gets.
All of the above and I think many of us who thought he was the second coming in the 80's just keep hanging on waiting for even just a glimpse of that standard he had in the 80's. Sounds sad but if you lived through that era most everything has and will pale in comparison. I think people are disappointed in a lot of what he has released and how he has conducted himself... and they express this disappointment in different ways.
I personally believe that he has not had a decent "editor" since the WB days and what has been released (without a filter) has tarnished his legacy somewhat. I'm not bitter but it's a bit disappointing to see a guy with so much talent piss it away because he is not open to critisism.
I'm sorry but I will never in a billion years understand why people continue to "just keep hanging on" and follow him if you claim he has not done anything good in 10-20-30 years or "since the 80s". I also lived through that era and when Prince wasnt doing it for me I walked away for a time. Its not that difficult. I dont know why in the world you fans cant give Prince a break and stop following him and go embrace other artists that is better at the moment. Why continue to follow an artist you claim treat you bad and no longer put out music you dont care far.

If nobody bitched or gave their honest opinion about songs, this place would be no more than an ass kissing, idol worshipping cult. Prince himself is an asshole so naturally he has attracted fans that are assholes too. Hell, if anything, he's the one that has influenced our behavior. He doesn't like to kiss ass himself but yet he wants others to kiss his. Well, it doesn't work that way. When we like something he does, we praise it and when we don't, we shit on it.

That's a very idealistic view, Andy.
What's actually happening is that we've got people here shitting on things we know nothing about. People shitting on the damn titles of songs we haven't heard or saying upcoming projects are failures when we know nothing about them. That's the issue here. And it's always the same people.
Nobody here is against valid criticism. We're against the people who seem to shit on Prince no matter what he does. |

I agree with OP - there's too much of a negative vibe here and I plan on changing that. The interesting thing is, it's a small but vocal minority of people creating that vibe.
Not sure what you mean by that.
Would you like no "negative" opinions to be allowed?
Or, would you shut people down who are engaged in "spirited" debate?
I don't know. Your statement worries me. If this site becomes as sterile as the NPGMC forums it will be usefull only to syncophants who think every sound outta Prince is a "masterpiece".
What "changes" do you have in mind? Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors. |

There's a lot of stuff that actually isn't either debate or valid criticism, but unwarranted personal flame attacks towards Prince and his bandmembers. I personally find that unacceptable. Frankly, we've lost dozens of great posters because of it. I'm not down with that. I've spoken to several people who would come back if that atmosphere changed.
I'm also not down with nonsensical threads seeking to decry music/albums we haven't even heard. I'll be locking those sorts of threads. People attacking Plectrum just because Prince hasn't released it yet, like he owes it to us. People shitting on the Purple Rain remaster because we haven't had an update on it. It's total nonsense. |

I do think that people should be happy about a lot of what's going on with Prince at the moment however. With the Purple Rain 30th, 3rd Eye Girl project and a new solo album in the pipeline I think the next 12 months will be very exciting. And with a WB back in the mix (to market and manage each project) this will hopefully give Prince a well deserved push back into the limelight. We just may need to practice a little patience and have faith that All those involved will be able to motivate Prince into treating these releases with the attention and care that they deserve. |

I keep saying it but this site is whatever you make it. Some view as mostly negative. I view it as mostly positive. What does contribute to the negativity found here are the ones who have less than kind things to say to those who are perceived as less than positive. If those people are trolls, then some of you feed them and make the site worse.
And I disagree that folks don't have a problem with those who have a valid argument. I can name at least five of the so called positive that criticize those people at every turn.

There's one guy - BartVanHemelen - that has some personal issue with Prince, but for reasons unknown to anyone with a brain, Bart thinks the best way to get back at Prince is to constantly criticize him on a website that Prince doesn't read. Best to ignore all postings from Bart, as they are completely useless and are always the same.
Then you have the "Prince should be my personal jukebox!" fools who have deluded themselves into thinking that only they know the perfect setlist. It's especially funny to watch them criticize setlists of concerts that they don't attend. Even when the the people that DID attend the show rave about how great it was, these people still maintain it couldn't have been any good because it was substantially the same setlist Prince played two weeks ago in another country. Why these people think Prince's audience is made up of the exact same 17,000 people no matter where he plays is a mystery, but these jokers actually believe that. Ignore them, too.
Of course we have newbies, which is actually great. As bad as the current music scene is - and has been since Nirvana killed rock and roll back in the '90's - it's great to see new fans discover a real musician. Young newbies should especially be welcomed with open arms, as they are the last best hope for a transformation in the music industry away from talentless hacks and hipster doofuses. Pray for them.
No fan site would be complete without groupies. We've had our fair share through the years, but we're down to one now. You all know him as KCOOLMUZIQ and he is harmless. He's exceptionally devoted to Prince and to Will Smith (and all humans related to or born of Will Smith). We all hope Prince recognizes his devotion and hires him (it's happened before; in fact, Prince actually married a fan). There's now way KCOOL could keep a secret and if he worked for Prince, we'd have no trouble getting all the info out of him. At least, for the two weeks he'd work for Prince before getting fired for gossiping. It would be "Old Friends For Sale" Part Deaux.
You might be surprised, but many of Prince's ex-wives and ex-girlfriends post here from time to time. Mayte and that other wife (her name escapes me now) both post here. Wait - Manuella! Yeah, she posts here a LOt but always under assumed names. Robin Power used to post here and I miss her and that neat world she lives in all by herself.
Finally you have the people like me - fans since "Soft and Wet" who have learned over the past 35+ years that Prince will do what he wants, when he wants. No amount of badgering will get him to do anything that isn't his own idea, and it will always be on his own timetable. So we just sit back, enjoy what we've got, and dig new music whenever it's released.
Is Prince perfect? No, of course not. But has he provided he benefit of the bargain over the course of his career? Without a doubt. |

You misunderstood my post. the person I was responding to mentioned the 80's which was thirty years ago. There is nothing soapbox or dictorial about my post. People will always be free to do what they want, but given the subject of this thread I'm posting my opinion just as you are and I will continue to do so as long as I feel like it. People just dont like to hear it because people dont want to admit that to a certain extent their obession with Prince is what makes them stay despite being miserable or dissatisfied for decades. I see those people more as the sycophantic you refer to that positive fans
I see posts with a long list of incidents of Prince treating fans like shit and people not being happy with him for years, so my point is that if the experience is that bad why keep following him? I never said that no one cant post their opinions. I've made it clear hear that I'm not feeling 3rd eye for various reasons, never did like 20Ten and frankly i'm predicting i will not like this new album until proven otherside. however overall, when it comes to Prince its still fun for me. when it stops being fun and i see myself getting mad or pissed or frustrated then i'mout. why stay? Prince sure as hell dont care. I saw a post recently on facebook i swore the guy was on the verge of tears and I was laughing my ass off. |

Is Prince perfect? No, of course not. But has he provided he benefit of the bargain over the course of his career? Without a doubt.
Oh Greg. You so rock.

Bart is okay, I prefer to read a critical opinion from BartVanHemmelen, maybe because he's an older fan like I am too, myself..
Better - way better to have Bart here than to read the crazy "masterpiece" nonsense from KcoolMusique.....
All in all..... I am glad we aren't all with the same "safe" opinions.... I don't believe Bart is a "hater", he's a critical fan, and that's fine with me..
Better to have honest opinions, than "a** kissers"
Just imho........

and Honest does not always mean critical either. someone who honestly likes a song could very well be well. honest |

When Prince is on some bullshit, people call him out on it. It's that simple.
Btw, there's nothing wrong with any of Bart's criticisms, imo. I'm sure that Bart is honest about his feelings. If Prince really started making some great music again, I believe Bart would be right there to praise it, as we all would.
I personally hope that Prince doesn't read into this forum much though. A lot of the people here have NO clue what they're talking about musically.
