I remember once when I was 15 I listened to it so loud in my earphones one night that my dad's GF could hear it from her bedroom and the bitch got out of bed and switched of the power in my bedroom from outside A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I remember first listening to this album on the double vinyl before I even started buying CD's. when it hit this song, my friend turned to me and said it sounded like a song for the end of a movie where a busdriver and his bus full of at risk/handicapped kids reaches their destination all spiritually bonded... in 1980.
I think he was actually inspired to say this because of:

Next time you listen to it...sing "Ever'body wants to fuck the greedy bitch" An ex gf of mine was convinced those were the lyrics - how? "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion" -- Martha Graham

Love it! ...Then you've probably sang MJ's "Keep up, with the porn stars, don't stop til you get it up!" For years I couldn't get those lyrics out of my head!

I genuinely enjoy GF, with its lofty, soaring vocals, spiritual vibe, uplifting lyrics, and simple melodies, which give the song its child-like innocence. Fairytale-like. But then P's voice comes in with this real masculine kind of resonance which gives GB a richness and depth at certain points on the track. . This song challenged me more than just about any other song of his--took me about five weeks before I could connect with it; woke up one day and had a craving to hear it that wouldn't go away. And as soon as I was able to listen to it after that, I was all up in it. Still love it to this day. . "Strange Relationship" was another song of his that did not connect right away. I liked it, certainly--it is Prince after all--great song. But it took nearly two years before I really, REALLY liked it. Same thing happened: woke up one morning and the second I opened my eyes the song immediately sprang to mind, accompanied by a craving that would not go away until I to listened to it. And...loved it ever since (of course). . It's like my wires were crossed: I could hear the music, but only when the cravings came on did I find myself capable of feeling the music as well, for a full sensory, intensely enjoyable listening experience.

LMAO. Yeah...that's fair. (And this is what I get for posting at some unGodly hour of the morning.) . What I meant by saying GB challenged me is that Prince's music has always had me whipped, from day one, with few exceptions. GB was one of those rare exceptions, taking me weeks to fall in love with the song, which happened literally overnight. Regarding the cravings: as a teenager I used to experience physical cravings to hear specific songs of his. This would happen 2-3 times a week and went on for several years. I have a theory for it now but it was pretty strange at the time.

Oh Gawd no! lol, I instantly turn it off when that opening chorus begins. Fun Fact, I have never played that song past the first 12 seconds.

OP - Cringeworthy. It's church music, without soul, for kids that was peddled to adults. [Edited 7/14/14 5:43am]

If I could erase it from my memory, I would. The movie as well. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

The song may be the biggest piece of garbage ever written but if someone likes it, to that person it's a good song. Music is art and like a painting if it evokes an emotion, it's a success for the viewer (listener). There are plenty of "awful" songs but what's a classic to one is junk to another. So if you like it, keep on liking it and to hell with the haters.
