my favourite guitar players are prince,jimi hendrix,frank zappa,george benson,stenly jordan ,santana and others. i read some discusions abut how jimi is better guitar player then prince. people get over it. jimi invented the way rock guitar should be played , but after him we got many great guitar heros that are better then jimi hendrix. jimi hendrix was very sloppy rhythm guitar player. prince is great rhythm guitar player. many times jimi was great but also his solos were unispired, he had often used only e pentatonic blues scale. prince use many diffrent exotic scales. jimi hendrix was great rock guitar player.but he mastered rock he wasnt playing jazz or something like that. prince played many diffrent styles on his guitar i heard him play rock,funk,jazz,even country guitar. and all of that genres he playes like it are his primarly music styles. jimi hendrix wasnt tehniqly great.good yes but not great. prince's picking leggato are much much better then jimi hendrix. jimi hendrex rarely played clean notes.most of the time he played very dirty . prince playes dirty only when he wants to but he mostly playes clear notes. jimi hendrix had a problem creating melodys,which isn't the case of prince. ok yes jimi died at the age of 27.he would developed his playing if he had a chance but 4 example prince's solo on why you wanna treat me so bad is much better and cleaner and very fluent solo.its better then any jimi hendrix guitar solo. and prince was 20 at that time. of course guitar playing would never b like it is if it wasnt for jimi hendrix. but that is where he is great. jimi hendrix was inovator. and jimi hendrix never ever played as good as prince did on joy in repetition live from nyc. i rest my case. u obviously don't know what your talking about. jimi iz still trying 2 b copped by alot of top guitar players. jimi was doing 3 different guitar parts at one time plus sing. have u listen 2 any of the band of gypsys stuff vs. the experience? prince iz in a different situation, being that he iz just like jimi if u listen 2 the first 3 albums. but the difference iz prince has played with more polished musicians like himself. music in the 60's and 70's iz very different than music 2day and it's technology. even when prince plays jimi songs in concert although they're great versions they don't compare 2 the original. it's all about vibe and feel. but if u were a musician u would know that | |

prince and jimi are both good in their own ways...
1) Jimi is an inventive guitar genius 2) Prince is an emotional guitar genuis (i.e. Just my imagination - small club) FACT 3 - PRINCE IS A BETTER SINGER...therefore, overall Prince is better... IF YOU WANT INVENTIVENESS THEN JIMI;S YOUR MAN.. IF YOU WANT EMOTION THEN PRINCE IS YOUR MAN,, | |

All arguments are valid. To be real who you like depends
on what qualities one prefers in a guitarist. again...i grew up on JIMI and yes i played guitar,too. HE was the best. very few people were in his league then. i won't disrespect the MAN cuz most guitar players OWE him a lot. prince's style is a blend of a lot of people JIMi,carlos, SONNy t's...among them and his own THANG. i dig HIS playing a LOT. because he outlived JImi by miles- and the fact he's a maniac...maniac as far as doing MUSIC- he actually do a few things superior to JIMI and still be a tad below him overall. but so what? why diss either BROTHA? those who PICK jimi GOT the RIGHT. and those who DIG P hold yo heads high,too. i love them both and ain't gonna waste time dissin' either one. by the way...prince IS a better singer.
