All My Dreams & Other Perfect Moments

You know those moments in Prince songs, that even for a couple seconds, take you to another level of life. Of course we do, otherwise why would we spend so much time and money with this guys music.

.

One of those moments for me is during All My Dreams. This song is good, it's not great but it's good. I think it is a tad long, and the middle part could be cut down as not much happens. I could possibly see it as an album opener or closer, as well as the concert closer extended jam in the vein of Baby I'm A Star/Beautiful Night.

.

For me, the best part of this song take place in the last minute. Espcially the last 30 seconds. His vocals backed with Wendy & Lisa make for a perfect closing to this 7 minute climax fit for a king.

The way he repeats "Don't ever lose your dream" three times over is almost like a personal pep talk from the purple one himself.

.

Post your other perfect moments in Prince songs that take you somewhere else. Yes it's been done before, but let's just take a moment and enjoy the good shit smile

The end of purple rain. The instruments just flow together. The piano sounds heavenly. Its just like an orchestral astral heavenly sound that puts me in a daze everytime I hear it.

I'm definately with U on that one, that's a big part of the reason I became fixiated on Prince music when I first heard that ending. Lisa's string arrangement just added the perfect touch

Some Prince songs have a different ending than the actual song that flows into the next song. These are my favorites because the endings sound like another song in itself.

Also the ending of Damn U gets me everytime. This is also a heavenly sounding instrumental section. It can only be heard for about 5 seconds but it is still awesome to the ears.

The way "Housequake" gets going at it's startup call and answer. Very startling and all the noises seem so perfect and crazy. The sound of the bassline starting up is great. There's tons of musical parts in there that he didn't try to recreate in the live arrangement for the SOTT tour.

I was obsessed with one little part of "Bob George" back when it was a fresh in 1988. It's the way the rhythms all kick in at the end when he says "I'll kick your ass". The guitar sounds so perfect in tone, and everything starts swinging.

I love the airport intercom sound of the transmississippi rap.

I'm SO tired of those nonsensikal comments. Batdance is too long nothing happens, America Extended is to long nothing happens, I Would Die 4 U Extended is too long nothing happens, The 4 tracks on N.E.W.S. are too long nothing happens, etc. (all those I've read here)...

YES, actually a lot happens in the middle of All My dreams and all along the aforementioned tracks. People just don't know how to listen, people just can't HEAR it because they haven't trained their ears to go beyond the obvious and splashing. It's exactly like when u teach language u realize people can't HEAR some sounds that don't exist in their mother tongue until they trained their ears. All those tracks are FULL of micro musical events, but u need a musician's or a true music afficionado's trained ear to hear them is all. 4 chrissakes someone who ain't never heard opera or classical Indian music in their life will say "nothing happens" in a Wagner opera or a classic Indian raga falloff (4 realz!)

Please train your ears and learn 2 listen 2 da shit but don't say such nonsense on public forums: there r youngsters reading! Thanks wink

Good Love - 'HeeEEEeere I'm protected'. Also love the harmonies on 'plethora of euphoria'.

Little Red Corvette is sheer perfection from start to finish. Sometimes I can't handle how good it is when I listen to it lol

Curious Child - 'Careless I was'

All of Venus De Milo

When 2 R In Love - 'Nothings forbidden and nothing taboo'

Sometimes It Snows - He you used to stay so strong, unafraid to die...'

IIWYG - Most but especially 'We could just go to the movies and cry together. To me baby that would be so fine'

When You Were Mine - Break down after solo. 'Now I spend my Time'

Most of Old Friends 4 sale (1986)

Paisley Park - Intro (especially the distorted guitar)

Open Book - Intro 'Oooh oh yeah BABY!'

Electric Intercourse - 'I don't know you I don't even care'

The Beautiful Ones - Entire 'do you want him' section

ICNTTPOYM - Pre-chorus, chorus, solo are all just pure ear candy

Interlude (Dream Factory)

There are many, many, many more. It's moments of reflection like these where I just think 'Jesus, I absolutely f****** love Prince!'

ICNTTPOYM: Everything about the song. The guitar solo, the long instrumental thing going on that sounds like a sample from Sign O the Times..ughhh. just AWESOME!

Can't Stop this Feeling I Got: "pardon me nigga...but this is my world"

DMSR: "Jamie Starr is a creep! It's Time to fix your clock. Vanity 6 is so sweet! (Bass)..."

For You: "With love, sincerity, and deepest care...(voices)...a life with you...I share"

Annie Christian: "She killed black children...and what's fair is fair...if you try to say you're crazy...everybody say electric chair"--plus the short, "electrifying" guitar solo

The guitar solo for 777-9311

The guitar solo for Lady Cab Driver

The female moaning on Lady Cab Driver

Delirious: "The room...the room...the room...is spinning around...ohhh oh oh yea... IIIIIII'm delirious yeah"

The whole of Venus De Milo

The guitar througout Alexa De Paris

All of the guitar on Batdance

The strings, backward guitar, keyboard and "Whoa" part on The Future

The laugh at the beginning, lyrics and whole track of Superfunkicalifragisexy

The whole "La, La, La, Hee Hee Hee"

The whole "Housequake"

You get the point! I could go on and on.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been remembering all these parts in their head. Isn't the human brain amazing for the things it can retain and replay?

The one lyric that has played a major part in my life is "Don't kiss the beast. Be superior at least" from Positivity.

.

I've been meaning to have it tattooed for the last 25+ years as it really was a line that seemed like it was 'sent' to me personally following an attack that left me too afraid to go out. I've also said it to myself regarding the odd ex when they've shit on me & I've left. If it weren't for Prince who knows how different my life might be?

I dont understand why people think the intro of Condition of the Heart is sooo long. If only folks would just sit back and enjoy its beautiful sound. Its really heavenly if one really listens to it. When I heard the song for the first time I already had in my mind that it would be a pop song and boy was that a no-no. One just simply has to listen to songs with an open mind and dont pre-concieve what the song might sound like.

I agree, I think sometimes people want to get to it quick. Or want something faster. When we listen to that song. I don't actually know if anyone else did anything on that song. But I do know when I put on my headphones and listen to this one, that opening I'm hearing Prince in a studio in 1984/85 by himself with Susan Rogers on piano. How can you not want to listen...

I xplained it above. Those folks haven't trained their ears, they just don't HEAR the music the very minute it goes beyond what they're used 2 (i.e. certainly not classical or jazz solo piano), they LISTEN to it but all they HEAR is a magma of ununderstandable sounds, so they deduct it's bad, too long or boring rolleyes

I never said it was bad or boring at all. I just feel the song could've been tighter if maybe the middle was cut a bit shorter. I get what your saying though. Personally I enjoy listening to all the songs you mentioned in your above post. Condition Of The Heart is one of the songs that the intro is crucial to set up the mood for the song.

.

I'm a dancer so LISTENING to music and HEARING intricate changes and moments in music is extremely important to crafting movement.
