Rock N Roll Love Affair [jamie lewis club mix] plus great guitar performance on the "stripped down mix"
now, say what you want, and hate all you like, but this is a groove! in my humble opinion it's princes best attempt at 'house' music and the mix totally works for the song. sure it's a bit repetitive and generic, but hey, somehow it all works to a t and i play the mix more often than the original, which i also really love. . that whole: . he said my faith keeps me from willing but U know that i'm able and if there's some room, i'd like 2 sit at Ur table she said "it's tight, but i think i can fit U in" . now that's clever. much as i dislike a lot of his lyrics since 20Ten, i love this one. . shame that the song, like all others, never really made any kind of impact. it was radio friendly enough and i think it's just a very good melody, great vocals, nice lyrics. pretty much everything (yeah yeah, it's not wild mysterious out of the box thinking prince but for what it is, it's great). . wow, rambling on again, excuse me i'll bow out now and allow the collective 2 shit all over the song

also absolutely LOVE the extra funky guitar on the "jamie lewis stripped down mix"
how did that come about? lewis mixed the track bare bones and then prince just threw that guitar over the top of it? . someone is probably going to burst my bubble and say it's a keyboard guitar and lewis plays it. but for now i'm gonna just believe that is prince and it's one of his funkiest bits of guitar in eons. . seriously, if you only ever listened to the first 10 seconds of this and thought "oh god, no i can't with this generic shit" please, treat yourself and listen to the whole of that "stripped down mix" (not the radio edit). that guitar just gets better and better as the thing progresses. . if you can't be bothered, just try 04:40 until 06:00 and tell me that doesn't make you pull a stank face just a little bit.

These are the kinds of lyrics that I want to hear more of from Prince. Personal, autobiographical, mature. Knowing he's capable of writing like this, it becomes more frustrating when he churns out those dumb run-of-the-mill lyrics in lesser songs. I wouldn't say he's much of a poet but he can certainly turn a phrase within the confines of a pop song when he wants to. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide." | |
