Interestingly, in some languages, the term "orient" refers to the Middle East. As far as I know, only English speaking countries refer to the far east as "orient".

In most other countries, the term "orient" means Middle East.

Yes I agree, in general the orient includes the Middle East I should specify the area of influence lol I can't even say Asia(n) because that includes the Middle East India & parts of Russia

Actually David Coleman(Lisa Colemans brother) introduced Prince to Middle Eastern forms of music and instruments:Around the World in a Day being a song with a touch of that. Lisa & Wendy also play Middle Eastern instruments and the Dream Factory version of Strange Relationships had those instruments.

And of course Mayte was a trained belly dancer/dancer and middle eastern dance/culture which is and featured a lot of that influence in videos and stage performances and in her time with Prince

So I definately agree, it seems like his Middle Eastern interest is deeper and for a longer time

On the Album N.E.W.S. "East" has a flavour of the orient though arguably it's only one section of the piece.

C-note - has the songs "Tokyo" "Nagoya" a"Osaka". "Tokyo" has a very serene oriental feel to it IMO.

The songs "7" and "Thieves in the temple" also have aspects of the orient, but it'd be overstating the point to say the orient was a theme.

I don't think much of it, overall. Not a thing he particularly had much handle on, just some stuff that got thrown into the mix. The guitar riff from "The Max" and 8/18/1988 "Instrumental Jam"...just little stuff like that.
