$7.73 Billion in physical sales? That's nothing.

Obviously NOBODY is buying CDs.

Listen, we get it. The industry is eventually moving away from physical product in favor of digital files. This is obvious, it doesn't seem anyone is arguing against this reality.

But when you claim that CDs sound like crap, but MP3's sound fine (as you did in post #45), you are proveably wrong since, all things being equal, it is impossible for an MP3 of the SAME file to sound better than a CD made from that file.

When you claim that CDs have been dead for over 10 years and that no one buys them anymore (as you did in post #52), and they shouldn't make them anymore because there's no market for them (as you did in post #54) you are proveably wrong as we have shown that in 2013 CDs made up over half the business.

You post an anecdotal story and claim that, since you used something called a "google search" that I'm obviously too old to know about, it proves your point (post #82).

Now you're going on about Japan skewing the facts... As if Japan doesn't count, and as if 100% of CDs are sold in Japan.

For some reason the fact that some people still prefer and still buy CDs really pisses you off.

Clearly you can't just state your preference, predict how you think the industry will advance, and debate those that disagree in a respectful way.

You prefer to make outrageous claims, and then rudely attack anyone who points out when you're wrong.

Some of us are looking forward to buying the remasters and new albums on CD or vinyl. If any of those albums ever get released that will be an option for us. Based on recent figures, we can accurately predict that over 1/2 the sales of those albums will be physical.

So, you might as well just get over it.

.

.

And that was were it all started, and we all laughed along to this new page. Its right though, CD is just the storage medium. CDs can't sound like shit, its what gets done to the music before its stored on a CD, and then how its processed on its way to the speakers that matters. You couldn't say that WD drives sound better than Seagate wink but you could say that some soundcards sound better.

.

.

Anyway, I'm keeping my CDs and most probably buying remasters -but only if there's bonus material. I like a physical product, probably because I'm older (mid 70s born) and enjoyed hanging out in record stores, dj-ing vinyl, then CDJs, now a controller. Its only music that I feel like this about, don't care about having movies or books as physical objects. Music is just that bit more special to me.

.

.

Also, I enjoyed Prince in the 80s but didn't buy albums, in the last 5 years I've bought loads as cheap, pre-owned bargains, so I don't have a huge problem buying again. I like to own and curate my own collection, so I won't buy digital when its the same price as physical, unless its a dig only release. I'll probably be swayed when downloads are offered as HD.

Excellent rebuttal... for a dumbass!

Anyone who has a casual understanding of the English language and a modicum of logic can follow this thread and see for themselves that you are either trolling or too stupid to communicate with adults.

Meanwhile, when/if the new releases come, you buy the digital copy.

I'll buy a physical copy for the same price.

I'll then rip myself a digital copy for FREE.

I'll have a digital copy for my devices, just like you, AND I'll have a physical copy on my shelf as part of my collection, which you will not have.

Luckily for me, and too bad for you:
The industry will keep making phyical copies right up to, and probably a little beyond, it stops being profitable to them.

That is harsh!!! lol But I see your point now. The CDs "heyday" is definitely passed, as is the shopping mall and damn sure the yellow pages.

Interestingly, I'm pretty sure nobody on this thread has argued that this statement is untrue.

Of course the end of the heyday merely predicts the death of the format rather than signal that it has already happened.

I wouldn't say shopping mall. They make bank. Just because you can shop on line doesn't mean that most will ever do that. I still believe that most will always shop in stores. Something about getting it now has it's charm.

I agree. Malls are still packed where I live during the holidays. But we will be called dense, dumb and doofuses for thinking that.

Where I live if you even drive near a mall you'll get stuck in what we call "mall traffic" for awhile. I avoid them BECAUSE they're so busy. But, whatever, "I saw one yesterday".

lol lol lol

Besides, many of those old CDs (especially Sign O The Times and Controversy) were pressed in the 80s and the sound is so flat.I'll be glad to get rid of those CDs.

'flat'?

Just turn op the volume and experience some dynamics.

Especially more recent (re)masters are way more compressed to achieve the really flat loudness.

Less dynamics is not good.

Plenty has been written about this.

Please read about loudness wars.

Oh my god. I love your sig.

I don't think I could ever get rid of my Prince CDs (what i have of them anyway, most of my Prince music from self titled up to Graffiti Bridge is vinyl). I love the little booklets you get.

Esp seen as some of Prince's '90s stuff is out of production now.

My auntie recently gave me her copy of Emancipation, I couldn't find it anywhere.

Adorecream

Getting and keeping his music on every possible format is the goal for me. I am always looking for any album or single on vinyl which I don't already have and then after that, the mixes.

.

Same with the CDs and Tapes, heck I would even buy his music on Piano rolls and 78rpm records if it was available. Could you imagine a Prince wax cylinder lol lol.

.

But still its important to have it all digital as well. The more music and the more formats the better.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
