A lot of love for IIWYG! biggrin Truly an incredible track. The lyrics and his delivery give me goosebumps every single time.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

So so so many to choose from (The Beautiful Ones, IIWYG, and Pink Cashmere always stop me in my tracks) but I'm going to say 17 Days. That hammering flanged-out guitar intro (which made it the perfect b-side for When Doves Cry), which explodes into that rubbery bottom-end and jangly reggaeish rhythm guitar, all of which bubbles beneath those warm synth waves that wash over the verses like a calming tide.

The lyrics are personal yet relatable, the rhythm track is just a little weird, and the whole thing is immensley catchy and poppy yet still incredibly melancholy. In short, it's every quirky/genius thing I love about Prince distilled into 4 solid minutes I can listen to over and over again without ever getting tired of hearing.

Automatic !

But i have another question : about The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker....
Someone said here this song is about to begin getting interesting at the end, where Prince teases with a great instrumental ending. Now, could it be that this track has an extended version ? The way it fades out sound more like it. I don't know of course. back in the day they counted the minutes on every vinyl side and it was limited. Prince had done several cuts on several albums before because of this.
And for me this sound a bit too early and too quick aborted. Imagine an extended version with that great wahwah guitar solo, etc...

I just love this song. It's absolutely top of my list with Automatic.
Pure mysterious, new-wave-ish Prince. Great vocals, great long track where a lot happens, while it remains true to its melody from beginning to end without being a bore. Can't wait for the remasters of these tracks. Mmmmmm. smile

When Doves Cry

Come to think of it, you guys may have a point. I've been spinning When Doves Cry a lot lately and damn it's good. Only thing holding it back is that it's so everplayed. Back when there were singles and B-sides, WDC and 17 Days was a killer one-two punch worthy of the Beatles.

Empty Room from C-NOTE. It's got everything. The voice, both the falsetto and the powerful, good lyrics and that ferocious guitar solo.
