Absolutely. Hire Susan to put together the remasters and box sets. She represents Prince extremely well. When I was a kid, back when you sometimes had to buy the music before you actually heard it, on the way home from the record store, I used to look for Susan's name in the credits as a way of kind of gaugng if a Prince song was good or not. If I saw Susan Rogers in the credits, my excitement level went up. It was always kind of special, to stumble across her name in the credits of songs by other artists and then realize that, more than likely, Prince had written that song. This worked in reverse too. A number of times I bought albums because I thought Prince was involved only to open them up, read the credits, not see Susan Rogers, and realize, he probably had nothing to do with the track.

I was like when I saw what Dr Fink had to say about Computer Blue. He doesn't know what Wendy and Lisa contributed to that song! Really??? Wendy...Yes Lisa... I wore my cassette tape out back in the day listening to that part of the song. Great reads in Vibe!!! TRUE BLUE

Thanks, I enjoyed that, wish it was longer tho. I could listen to her stories all day. "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Nice article! Thanks for posting. . Even more reason to hire Susan. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Maybe it wasn't much? Wendy has said that she doesn't know why they got a writing credit on CB. The wooh is on the one!

lol I never read that one yet Lisa Coleman with Wendy on a Chicago radio station talked about the song. Maybe she is talking about the actual lyrics. Wendy & Lisa came up with the opening vocal intro Lisa said the opening guitar is Wendy Melvoin lol But there was a lot of work done on that song and so much going on then . But on the recent writing credits I don't see my name on there. That kind of disappoints me, but I do have writing credits on there for royalties sake.

This is a great read by Susan, I always say women have very good memories. As well as artists
So many layers to Let's Go Crazy
She definately needs to write a book That had to be a very exciting time, I mean she came in right before the Purple Rain stardom, a very active time...

Wow! What a great candid and insightful interview with the awesome Susan Rogers
I wish she would write a book too! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
Remember there is only one destination and that place is U All of it. Everything. Is U.

. There are stories implying Prince played games with writing credits, not giving it where he should, then making up for it elsewhere.

This is some of the best info I've ever read that breaks it down for each song (not the Susan Rogers article, but the Dr Fink one). This guy should write a book. You know who else know a LOT?
Morris Hayes probably knows a lot from the 90's. That guy is very tall. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I think the whole group should come together and write a book. Because we know how Prince worked at particular times. . For example Jill Jones was going into the studio with Prince to do vocals on the Glamorous Life music, but never when Sheila E was around (or mostly) Jill also didn't know that Sheila E was going into the studio after she was there to do the Glamorous Life music. . Apollonia did not know (according to Lisa Coleman) that Prince had her & Jill doing vocal work underneath her voice to try to help it out on songs. That Bobby Z played drums on Take Me With U. . So some songs all Prince, some songs all band, some songs combinations of people. . sorta takes me to Jesses talk on the Time music, how many still think it was all Prince when there was a combination of mostly Prince, Morris Day on drums, Jesse did do guitar work on the albums.

Good post...a couple of things....
Prince indeed used Jill on some of the vocal tracks....But that was mostly because Apollonia and Sheila (to a smaller degree) had weak voices....Prince simply used Jill to flesh them out...
As for the Time, Jesse did indeed play/contributed heavily on a Time album....
But not the first two albums....It's well known and documented that Jesse did most of the heavy lifting on Ice Cream Castles...Jesse was running the show given that Morris was dealing with his personal issues and basically clashing with Prince...
As Fink noted to me, it was virtually all Prince. But he was no dummy. He knew he wanted a few songs on Purple Rain to have a band "feel". So he used a couple of recordings from the First Avenue gig and the rehearsal space.
But being the control freak that he is, it was 95.5 percent Prince (except on the Parade album...That was the biggest "group" effort from Prince....Ever)...And i think that's why he disbanded the group after that...But that's another story...

In the Associate Artists forum there was a thread about a recent interview with Jesse Johnson, he talked a lot about the music they did then. Jesse along with Prince & Morris Day did work on the 2nd album
| |

Oh of course....Jesse and Morris def were given more space to contribute here and there on the 2nd album...But it was mostly P (Jesse did some playing though...)
But it was that 3rd album that Jesse and Morris really got more of a say....Even more Jesse. The work he did on that album was some of the best moments on Ice Cream Castles (Jungle Love especially)...
I def. think Jesse deserves his props on that album....
