Let's celebrate without words Whilst I'm a new member I am a longtime follower of prince.org. It's always been the best place to find out what the hell is going on with our beloved but unpredictable Prince. Living in Australia is particularly hard because devoted fans are hard to find. With the help of this site I've managed to keep a track of what I care most about... the music that Prince has produced and where the fuck I can get a hold of it for my collection.
One thing that strikes me when I visit this site is how much negativity is thrown around. I'm 42 and have very little time for people who spend their time putting others down for a kick. My 13 year old daughter calls them trolls so I guess that's what they are called these days... we used to call them annoying wankers. Hopefully there are people reading who don't require an emoticon (I learnt that word from my daughter) to understand where I'm coming from. No emoticon can ever encompass how I feel. The Love Symbol is one of Prince's greatest works if you think about it.
This will be my first and only post on this amazing website. No, I'm not about to top myself because I can't get Prince music in a medium I can physically touch, pour over written lyrics or lose myself in the graphic art that has always been an inspiration to me over the last 30 years. I get that times change and it might not be cost-productive but I personally miss this aspect of the work that Prince releases and I know that others feel the same way.
So... I propose a thread (my daughter taught me that it's a thread... I thought a thread was a bit of annoying cotton I bight off my clothes when they fray) that celebrates Prince without words.
I'm calling on anyone who has been inspired by Prince to express how you feel without words.
I'm guessing many fans have drawings, photos, paintings, montages, collages, tattoos etc that have been drawn, created or inked by devoted fans that should be shared.
Prince, I hope that this gesture makes you happy. You have always been someone who spoke to people with more than your amazing music.
Cheers from the Gold Coast Queensland in Australia (add emoticon that means I live in the best city and country in the world)
P.S I've got images I want to post but I need my daughter to make it happen and she's gone to bed. | |

That is a good definition of a troll, but people having a critical reaction to something out of frustration is not the same as 'for a kick'.
Reality is truth is an absolutely must. Complaining about a song you think is below the standard you're used to is no different than when your favorite basketball team screws up and you sit around commiserating about what specifically went wrong.
Popualr music can be art, but in most cases it is about as valuable as a televised basketball game. It makes money for someone and in all but the most extreme cases it is forgotten when the new season begins.
In other words, if someone puts something out there for the public to digest, not everyone will like it and those folks have just as much right to discuss their impressions of the work as the people who praise it do.
In even OTHER words, it is pretty unimportant. If Prince is remembered in whatever future we have ahead of us, it will almost certainly be for Purple Rain, not MPLS. Even that near-certainty is pretty damned meaningless in the face of the real challenges we face in every day life.
Don't worry about it. Negativity is an opinion, just as positivity. Totally subjective and depending on individual interpretration.
The Japanese government engaged in positivity, (telling people to expect the BEST possible outcome, however unlikely) instead of helping people prepare for the worst, (which is what happened) in dealing with the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. Their positivity was the opposite of helpful because wishing really hard that something was true doesn't make it so.
Again, THAT was an actual important issue that affects us all, not a fairly pointless collection of songs by a semi-popular musician

Seems to me very people have anything to contribute to this thread... I'm calling on fans to post drawings, paintings, montages, collages, tattoos etc that have been drawn, created or inked by devoted fans that should be shared. This is not a call for generic photos of our Purple Yoda.
I thought this thread may have produced some original pieces of art that people have produced out of admiration, through inspiration or simply to express an intrinsic affiliation with Prince.
