It's the Lyrics, Dambit

Forget the fact that Prince is cleaning out the wirty dords. That doesn't bother me.

Forget the fact that His music is taking a swing in another direction, the music is still good.

What I am finding is that Prince, in his lyrics, has seemed to have lost his cool.

Take for instance, a song that I have never really cared for from back in the past, Melody Cool.

No, never really cared for it.

But still, lyric wise, it is cool.

No swear words, didn't need it.

Or Tick tick bang, off the same album, no swear words, but assembled in the cool.

No lyrics he is writing these days has the same cool.

I will be your Screw? come on. That is not the cool we have come to love.

Feelings/thoughts?

He's always had dumb lyrics hanging around...its nothing new.

Dumb lyrics r necessary. Not everything is profound or deep and meaningful.

From dmsr to the bird to LA LA LA he he he to scarlet pussy to housequake... Etc etc etc... Dancing around and being silly aren't evil. One needs rest from being profound and saving the world via music.

I have a theory that Prince lost his innocence and as a result his lyrics turned to shit.

For example .. when prince says "I sincerely want to fuck the taste out of your mouth" it is almost cute. He is being honest. He loves sex and is attracted.

Now when he sings "I got a lot of money and I don't want to spend it on me, I like pretty things and you're just as pretty as you can be" he sounds like an old creepy dude trying to turn someone cute into his personal hooker. He is just gross now.

There is a huge difference between being young and in love and horny and wanting sex and being old and knowing you can "buy" a woman and take advantage of their naivity.

Than he hides behind religion like that makes him a good person. I don't know any religious people that aren't trying to conform and present a false persona to hide the fucked up shit they have done or are still doing.

There is nothing cute or innocent about prince being horny anymore. He clearly sees women as possessions or "things" and his lyrics reflect a shallowness that is repulsive and ruins most of his music since the WB break.

In fact I would say prince lost his innocence around the Gold era. He became bitter and hateful towards the entire music industry. I imagine he became bitter and hateful towards women in general some time before that, but there was still some truth and vulnerability in his music up until the WB split. After that it really all went to shit. His music became undertoned with anger, spite and contempt. Instead of being cool, sweet, playful he became egotistical and a bit braggish and rediculously his use of profanity lost all its impact and power because of its constant meaningless overuse .. his lyrics became not erotic but vulgar and pornographic. It was like larry flynt was writing these songs .. not prince.

Prince sounds more like a creepy predator than a guy who LOVES women and wants to celebrate sexuality. Lets face it .. prince is just gross now.

And yes .. it's the lyrics.
