Technically he does say "funk" in the lyrics that's how he got away with radio airplay back in the day even though when you listen closely Sheila say's funk and he says fuck so that's his loophole excuse if he does release the song with PR remastered. AKA PDEXTER

I'm sorry but justifying mediocrity by saying everybody does it doesn't do it 4 me. The topic has been discussed. We know what your fellow fans r thinking about it. If u don't u can read the previous PR remaster threads. Anyway what do u expact, people saying "yeah cool I hope he consors the songs". Of course everybody would b mad if he did. Of course some people fear he will. If u're afraid and need to be reassured, my opinion is that he won't touch a thing: it would open the door to such a massive backlash from both fansites and music critics that it would be a PR suicide, and I doubt WB would have agreed on a deal if this had been considered by . had many PR disasters with us the fans b4 but this is a project that will generate much media publicity, far beyond the fandom. The worse that may happen is 2 have a "family friendly" edition and a "parental advisory" edition (as was the case with both and Emancipation) in which case we don't care except that hardcore completists will have to spend twice the money to get both versions. Their won't be any censorship or if there is it'll be a separate release and we'll get both. Mark my words and sleep in peace Now u can ask the mods to lock ur thread. U missed that one? Back in December 2010 he claimed that HIS contract allowed reversal of masters after 30 years not 35, that he'd already gotten the first 3 albums back and that he'd already remastered the first 6. He also mentioned that he was planning to release an extended version of Adore alongside a future SOTT remaster and that after remastering Erotic City sounded much better (I think he said something about the bass sounding flat on the original master, IDK it's all from memory). The first part at least was pure BS as he didn't get a single master back b4 this year (+ it's not the contracts that allow masters reversal, it's a LAW). Yeah, it's just a word. It has only as much power (positive or negative) as you give to it. There are NO bad words. No such thing. Oh please it's a crude curse word. Definately not something you would use or say in front of everyone. Just this weekend was driving from Orlando to DC and had to skip a number of Prince songs including Erotic City because my 5 year old and mother were in the vehicle and other children.... Had it been just me and my wife then it wouldn't have been an issue. But nothing wrong with the original comment regarding some discomfort. Don't let these crazy people talk you out of listening to that voice that speaks to you. Another song that came on was Bob George.... I immediately yanked it. Always listen to that voice. No such thing as bad words lol! Sometimes I read this board and just shake my head. Dance... Let me see you dance

It's funny it wouldn't cross a French father's mind to skip a song because of profanities in the lyrics. Profanities being allowed on French TV and all. Not that we don't try not 2 use them in front of very young children or that they're not taught to b careful what they say, but every once in a while it's considered OK for them 2 b exposed 2 profanities particularly in the context of a media. Yeah well different cultural values is all. In South-East Asia 4 example there is absolutely NO limit to the extreme violence that can b shown 2 children. I remember my 4 to 7 years old students in Phnom Penh describing me a scene from the movies many of them had seen the day b4 on TV: i.e. a scene of slow behading with a knife, including lots of blood and shit. They told me about this as if it was the most natural thing 4 in the world and I turned 2 my Cambodian assistant and asked her "is it normal here 4 kids 2 see violent scenes on TV like that?" and she shrugged and told me "yeah, why not?" I can tell u the kids didn't look upset at all even though 4 a French (and I guess an American as well) allowing ur 5 y.o. kid 2 watch such a thing on TV would be considered a cause 4 major trauma and totally irresponsible. My friends living in Thailand told me it's the same there, too, so it's not just Cambodia (one could think that due to their extremely violent recent history and the relationship 2 violence that goes along with it, but no, it's the whole region). . Your Mom would have been around 42 when that record came out. Unless she was fairly religious, and proper back then, I'm not sure why it would shock a baby boomer at 72? That's not the most prudish generation, you know? I'm also not sure what the appropriate age is for a child to listen to Erotic City, but it's all pretty harmless assuming they don't know what the words mean, and if they do, then it should be twice as harmless if they know it's a song about sex, which is something adults do, ideally when in love. Censoring content is a losing battle. Better that you play it for your kid and give them context, and help them process it's then leaving it up to a chance person to have such an influential role in their life.

I so totally agree with everything u said! I remember a thread a few months back when I desperately tried 2 xplain that when I was a kid my folks would swear a lot in front of me, at home, but taught me very stricly that such words were absolutely forbidden outside of the nuclear family circle. I was allowed to say shit and everything at home but if I'd say such words outside or in front of strangers or even distant cousins they'd just flame my ass (themselves, being well educated bourgeois, would never have done it either) and to be honest I don't even remember even crossing that line once: the rule was very clear 2 me and I enjoyed the freedom to b able 2 curse at home, and I was shocked when my classmates told me they weren't allowed 2 do it even though their parents were. I never ever cursed in a shop, or in front of a teacher, or in front of guests at home, and even I think in front of my grandparents whom I respected a lot (actually I tried once in front of my grandpa when I was maybe 2 or 3 because I felt this was still "home" and he slapped my face, I understood immediately and never did it again). But when I xplained that everyone in the thread fell on me saying "well unlucky u if ur folks were irresponsible fools and u were a ill-mannered kid but I don't want my kids to swear in the classroom or in public places". They just had read what I'd written but they just couldn't understand it. They just couldn't accept the idea that children can be taught being responsible and adjusting their behavior to their environment. That says a lot about how kids, even today, are still held in low esteem by their "beloving" parents Kids are not idiots, they can understand things as long as they're being xplained properly 2 them. Maybe Mom is a woman of standards, who would rather not hear such words in the company of her child and grandchild.
And the f word is never appropriate for a 5-year-old to hear. Ever. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

A word being INAPPROPRIATE for children does not make it BAD. Until you joined the conversation, there was no mention of children. The word itself is not bad because (I'll say it again): There are NO bad words. They don't exist. No word has power it isn't given by the listener. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

. Look more power to you and your family living life the way you want, but it's nothing your Mother has never heard before. If it bothers her, it probably would also bother her that you're listening most of those Prince records, no matter wether the devils music uses the F word. . I will encourage you to expose your child to adult content in a controlled, and healthy way, so they can process it, for the very reason you outline - so they don't walk into school singing dirty songs. How else are you gong to protect them from my kid, who will be singing Darling Nikki AND doing the dance moves.....and then end it with a lecture about how babies are made, straight off a Nova episode.
