The electronic version was released in the sense that it was featured in The Beautiful Experience TV special. I think the special got broadcasted pretty much everywhere in the world, so it must have had millions and millions of viewers. I'm sure many of us still have it on VHS.

I liked the electronic version a lot, but was blown away by the album version when it came out. The way the song builds up is just something else altogether. Originally I thought the album version must have been recorded first and the electronic one was just a remade version that he simply released to the public first, but apparently that's not the case.

Actually I forgot to mention it but it (the film) was even released by mail order only for a few months in 2001, the only thing being that the quality of the copies, according to the poor souls who bought it, was worse than the VHS they'd recorded on TV back in 94: it seemed like a 5th generation copy of the original tape! Of course every buyer was mad but NPGMC's staff's only answer to their emails of protest was "we're sorry, this is the only copy at our disposal" falloff Yeah, right, how about u go look in the vault for the original instead of copying a 7 years-old 5th gen copy of a TV recording of it. Another little known but massive prince fiasco sad

So yeah technically it's not a promo release only, but the low quality of the final release makes it kind of uneligible, not 2 mention its very limited availability lol

The film's audio track was rereleased in bootleg with a pristine quality a few years back (by 4DF IIRC), alongside the untitled 1994 promo cassette that was sent to some european radio stations at the time. Get it if u can!

I just heard an alternative version of the song Come. It is very different from the album version - do anyone know if it was ever released, [Snip no no no! - luv4u]

There r loads of versions so IDK which one u've heard.

#1: first recording from January 93, unreleased, I think circulating IIRC (too lazy 2 check but I remember a very bare bone version).

#2: second recording from later in 93, used in Glam Slam Ulysses, unreleased, circulating, full band recording.

#3: edit of #2, I think the one from the 10,000 Wallpaper boot, unreleased, circulating.

#4: third recording, the long "electronic" version, from late 93 or early 94, unreleased, circulating.

#5: edit of #4, released as a promo video only as part of The Beautiful Experience film.

#6: fourth recording from April 94, album version, released on Come.

+ several uncirculating remixes from Summer 94 for a cancelled maxi. 18 & Over (released on Crystal Ball) was also derivated from Come and was among those remixes. There's a longer unreleased version of 18 & Over that's circulating and Princevault mentions a Madhouse version of it, I have no idea what this is about but it's not circulating. It's also possible that the video 4 18 & Over was a different edit IDK, Princevault says it was released as a promo video but I have no idea how and when, I think it's unreleased (or was it on NPGMC in 2004-2005 alongside the video for I Like It There?) but it's circulating.

So basically only 2 versions of Come (excluding 18 & Over) were officially released: #5 (promo video only) and #6 (album version).

There also were a few fan edits that should not be confused with anything official.

IDK why it took 11 replies to answer your original question lol

The DNA Lounge from 93? yeah and actually silly me forgot to mention that one as well for the whole show was also officially released even though it's only available on streamin and not for purchase (mods don't allow to say where for they -wrongly- believe it's an illegal website). Of note the released recording is -of course- a different source than the one on the bootleg, though the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired (it's not prince's own recording from his vault either but a recording made by the venue's staff themselves, it's soundboard but obviously the recording material they used was not top notch).

The released version never did it for me. Thought the Beautiful Experience version was far more original and the best of all the versions.

Forget all the diff versions malarky.

Was there ever a cooler line than:

"Maybe you should wrap your legs around my neck for a while.
Let me see if I can make you smile"..?

I should get that printed on a T-Shirt smile

The album version is ok until it gets to the sucking noises, then I have to skip it, why he couldn't have put the 10,000 wallpaper version on there I don't know, that 3 song run of Interactive, Come then Endorphinemachine is just great [Edited 6/13/14 2:25am]

Only Prince could simulate pleasuring a womans nether regions in a song and get away with it.

Or heck, maybe it wasn't simulation.

At any rate, sucking aside, I am a huge fan of COME as it was released on the album.

The Beautiful Experience was actually released for sale during the NPG Music Club. I have the VHS which was purchased from them. I was expecting a pristine version but got some shitty quality thing recorded from Japanese TV. It was a very disapointing experience.

RIP sad
