Jack White is the successful realisation of Prince's ambitions?

Jack White is a successful example of what Prince was aspiring to be/have when he originally broke his contract with WB. Perhaps P was born 10 years too early?

Anyway to be more specific:

  • Jack White was truly innovative in bringing his own minimalistic garage band, lo-fi quirky rock music to the masses with White Stripes. He influenced many, many others like The Black Keys. He started a movement.
  • Jack White was and is fiercely independant releasing albums with major record labels for the sake of larger distruibution but keeping control of his songs and all the applicable rights and masters. In addition to this he continues to release songs and live albums for fans as well (along the way).
  • He has a die hard fan base. That are passionate, dedicated and happy (which leads me to...)
  • Jack White has set up his own retail store and profitable online "vault" subscription service that has always provided a great customer service experience. They ship on time and in full. As a result his fans adore him and for the most part don't have an unkind word to say about him.
  • His releases have continued to perform very well and he is yet to release an album that is not widely considered anything less than fantastic.
  • He always releases very cool collectible releases that are very LIMITED satisfying the collectors of his fan base. And creating excitement and buzz as a result.
  • Despite being well versed in guitar, drums and most other instruments he remains profoundly collaborative. He is very open and giving in this regard.
  • He shreds on guitar.
  • He is prolific.
  • He has many side projects.
  • Incredible live performer that has previously performed with all female backup bands.
  • Has his own eccentric look and is obsessed with colour.

So you are probably thinking that I am a Jack white sycophant right? Well not exactly. I have arrived late to the party where JW is concerned I have only "discovered" his music in the last couple of months and joined his vault a few weeks ago.

I am enjoying an artist that follows through with every promise and statement. I am enjoying the over all experience of an infrastructure that is rock solid and customer-centric.

Oh, and it doesn't hurt that his music is as cool as sh!t.

Prince is still my absolute fav artist but it's a pity he has not been able to succeed where White has been able to flourish.

1) Wrong forum. (should be in non Prince forum.)

2) Jack is a watered down version of Prince. He is good just not Prince good.

I doubt that Prince wants to, ever wanted to, or ever will want to be Jack White.

I love Jack White. he is amazing.

I think there are some similarities between him and Prince. he definitely is inspired by Prince.. like many others.

Doubt that Prince wants to be Jake, but i'm sure that Prince admires his talent. i guess. lol

A co-worker at a recent job was a big Jack White fan, back to the first days of him starting the fan club/recording studio operation in Nashville. We live about 3 hours away, and he goes down all the time to concerts at the studio, gets all the collectible releases, etc.

As far as fan clubs are concerned, all of the things he told me about the membership were truly amazing, and it does put the Prince fan's experience of the last few years to shame. If you're into Jack White's music, it really really is an awesome example of the relationship a prolific artist can have with a fan.

Prince ought to just outsource all his future fan club endeavors to Jack!

Jack White is great and it's true he seems to be succesfully doing whatever he wants and that he must have impressed Prince with his work, but I'm pretty sure even Jack White realizes that compared to Prince's body of work, his is a footnote in musical history.

Lol Jack White's artistry is heavier than Princes.

The watered down version of Prince is Lenny Kravitz, Jack White has his own watered down version (The Black Keys).

I wish they would work together.

Their contrast and artistry could be a compelling mix.

Jack is awesome.

They're both important in music history, without Jack White and White Stripes' 2000s output as a garage rock / blues rock revival band, there won't be no Black Keys, no Danger Mouse, no Kings of Leon. Same thing happened with Prince's 80s / early 90s work that was a hybrid of funk, R&B, soul and hip hop that allowed many stars such as TTD, D Angelo, R Kelly, Maxwell, Outkast to release their output.

C'mon already, JW is as influential as they come. Without him as a sole musician who managed to bring back the bluesy garage rock sound to the mainstream, a lot of bands wouldn't have so much success, without Jack Black Keys wouldn't have a number one album last week.

I love Jack White and in the current music landscape he's one of the few artists whose live and/or album events I get excited about. However, I was at the infamous Radio City Hall show in 2012 where he walked off after 45 minutes. I was so pissed and wrote about iit here:http://prince.org/msg/8/387952

Not in sound, but in quality of music.

I remember buying Icky Thump on release day, but that aside, his music doesn't enthrall me too much.

EXACTLY! Lenny Kravitz is to Prince is what the Black Keys are to Jack White. Owl City is the watered-down Postal Service.

LOLZ. That is perfect.

Owl City doesn't sound anything like the Postal Service these days. Also, he's made more than one album LOLZ.

Seriously, this sounds nothing like the Postal Service.

Neither does this.

Or this.

Hipsters stay on that snobbery shit, but don't know about the artists they're talking about.
