It would probably validate some of his own beliefs that if people don't like his new music it's because they're "not ready" for it. He doesn't seem like he'd be impressed with anything that reminded him too much of his own crew, or guys he knew with unrealized dreams. Likewise, I've also never seen him comment on Fishbone or Beatnigs.

He jammed with them? Didn't know. The sampling wouldn't mean he's automatically a fan, but I actually forgot he used that.

Agree. They also perform with a lot of energy, otherwise I think a lot of attention they get is based on novelty.

Death are interesting, but mostly because Hardcore as a genre came along to validate them.

Kinda seems like Prince is drawn to a lot of female artists these days, that you can play in the background like it's Bossa Nova.

He has commented on Fishbone. He mentioned a show he saw once where the drummer played with his back to the band and that impressed him greatly. They are great musicians, but it's too bad their song are fucking weak, though.

If I remember correctly, he said that he wasn't sure if Fishbone was good or not. Then he made the comment about the drummer playing with his back to the audience and that there was "some kind of excellence" to that.

I also remember the NPG members mentioning the band (including Prince, possibly) going to see Primus. So it seems that Prince was interested in that type of late-80s, early-90s crazy, "funkmetal" stuff, as many musicians were at the time.

That type of music seems to have very little cultural relevance now, I'm afraid.
