thanks .. i'd be happy to link to many of my great tunes .. this was an acoustic live demo i recorded about 20 years ago that i liked .. plus tried out the video option on my camera for fun and made a demo .. again 20 years ago .. still a great song .. if prince covered it it would be the best thing he has done in decades .. too bad prince cant write something this simple and more importantly .. real .. if u want to compare me to hendrix well that thread may go a little better than prince .. after all i cant play scales for shit .. so already my music is more interesting than hearing prince practice his scales live in concert

TrevorAyer said: at least i don't butcher my vocals with auto tune like some other vocalists we all know Hey Trevor i was listening to two of your albums. Songwritting is nice.you are talented. You have a nice voice and i think that some off key singing is because you didnt work enough on vocal melodies.my biggest complaintment is regarding your guitar playing.first your guitar is out of tune.second your soloing style sounds very amateur but maybe that is your playing style so maybe i shouldnt comment.but i think your music overall is good and you have lots of talent.

Your song Fall In Love is not bad but to say its better than anything Prince had done in decades??? Life O THE pARTY from Musicology album is the best song ever written compared to this. sorry but its true

I think Jimi would make a great jazz guitar player. At at the end of his life there was talk over a project with Miles Davis and arranger Gil Evans, with an orchestra and all. That would have been amazing!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I grew up listening to my older brother blasting Hendrix (when my Dad was gone, my Dad only listened to jazz....) along with Sly, Queen, Pink Floyd and the other greats from the psychedelic rock period. From that period, Hendrix is my favorite with David Gilmour being a close second. The Purple Rain era hit when I was high school, I saw Prince at the Tacoma Dome in 1984 and I was very impressed with his abilities generally and his guitar play particurlarly, i've kept up with him ever since. I'm hard-pressed to say that I prefer Prince over Jimi since Jimi created the guitar language that help to cultivate Prince's unique guitar language. To my ear, Prince's guitar play has a combination of power and elegance that I have not heard from any other guitarist.

. So basically the finesse stuff Hendrix was playing as a session guy? In terms of jazz licks, I'm not sure those are standout tracks in the big scheme of things. Hendrix lacked interest in playing that stuff, but I don't think it's fair to say he didn't have the musical range to do it.

Its not Jimi Hendrix you should be comparing him to. Its Little Richard. Hendrix style was influenced by Richard. So was James Brown, and Prince has copied Little Richard down the a T, from the exact same haircuts to the outfits. But then again, so have many other people.

. Hendrix history is a funny thing. It's a lot like Prince biographical info... if one of a hand full of people cosign it, then everyone accepts it as true, despite a lack of evidence. The story is he wanted to work with Miles himself. The project had a name. Jimi was actively seeking out collaborations and supergroup type projects. Most sound like Jimi's camp trying to float some ideas around, but the Miles project sounds the most realized. . I'm of the belief neither Prince nor Jimi could hack it as true session musicians because they have too much personality in what they do, and it requires a different set of chops, but Hendrix certainly could play jazz in the sense that Jazz is a huge umbrella of a genre. Hendrix would have played Jazz the way Miles played Jazz. .

Well, Little Richard is bi-sexual/gay as all hell. But he has a million dollar voice and rocks out hard as fuck. The most copied man in rock. Little Richard is the man.

Oh without a doubt, Little Richard is THE archetype! But this thread is specifically about Hendrix and I can't post videos of Prince covering "Voodoo Child" "Red House" Who Knows" etc...so I figured I use some fashion sense

i listen to prince because he and his bands made great songs with lots of cool interplay .. i listen to hendrix just for the guitar .. the guitar is so good the song barely matters .. prince cant do that on guitar .. he needs a great song or the music fails .. otherwise 3eg would not suck so bad .. people be rating hendrix like guitar is some kinf of college degree .. like he isnt the best because he doesn't do certain scales or plays around the beat instead of right on it like prince .. hendrix could play only a single note for 10 minutes and make it more interesting than prince with free reign to do all his little scales and finger runs and hendrix would still be a better listen .. i dont even like a lot of hendrix songs that much but the guitar is just that crazy good .. and .. my song 'fall in love' blows 'life o the party' out of the water .. y'all just jealous of my mad skillz! (wait till i drop 'black sunshine' later this year .. u be like .. SOTT coulda been this good)

I've never undeerstood why Americans revere basketball so much. You need some physical prowess, I suppose, but throwing a ball into a net has never been high on my list of great human achievements. Maybe it's me.

hmmm sorry but you are wrong. listen to Jimis first album.tell me if there is a single filler song? Jimi played great guitar but he had amazing songs. and all the Prince vs. Jimi bullshit you talk about is just your opinion, its not a fact,so can you try to be objective? i dont have any agenda against you but lot of your posts sounds like you are angry and hate Prince.did he stole your girlfriend or what?
Prince is a great guitarist and everybody who have a pair of ears can hear that. You discuss Prince sense for melody, let me tell you something Prince had played and still plays great ,even amazing guitar melodies much better than you will ever play. I heard your music Trevor and you have some song writting talent but you should really put some effort in your guitar playing ,start with tuning guitar.and we can talk about melodies and his guitar playing.

Never seen this pic of Little Richard....there is a pic of Prince live from the 80s that is almost identical to this shot! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

r u experienced is a classic .. the next two had a bit of filler as did rays of the new rising sun .. taking jimis classic 5 with prince classic 5, prince had better songs and less filler, jimi played guitar a thousand million bazillion times better than prince tho
thanks for listening to my awesome singing .. it's even worse now .. but sometimes i sing pretty damn good .. also thanks for comparing me to clapton .. i've recorded almost a thousand songs .. often they are rehearsals or live or even recorded as being written .. just kind of off the cuff stuff .. as is the case with the much discussed "fall in love" .. i've never been in a real studio or labored over a song recording for years like the major players do .. but my songs are good as is my guitar and even my singing sometimes and i know it and don't need a bunch of polished pop lovers telling me my punky genius isn't overproduced enough .. i like bob dylans voice as much as i like prince .. they resonate equally when they sing the truth .. same with neil young .. i have kids and not much time so i bust out these demos quick and imperfectly .. i record on cassette 4 track 8 track and now my home computer .. not excuses just so you don't think i spent thousands on my recordings and came out sounding like a cassette of a quick acoustic demo .. it is actually just a quick acoustic demo .. one of many
thanks to those who say the songwriting is pretty good .. i am gonna unleash it all soon and make prince jealous that he cant release a 12 disk set this good ..
ps. (i already released vermonts FIRST box set 20 years ago .. it had 600 minutes on it all of my 4 track cassette recordings .. a lot of it kinda sucked but i've accumulated a ton more material while raising my kids and working and all that shit since then ... even some jams with famous people .. gonna be cool stay tuned)

Check Al Dimeola or John McLaughlin or Mike Stern or Allan Holdsworth. All of the above mentioned people do not touch these 4 so the conversation is moot. [Edited 6/13/14 12:58pm]

The big reason Prince and Hendrix comparisons make me bristle is because when I hear them, it is usually code for, "oh, it's two black guys who play guitar," as just another variation of having a black spokesperson for __whatever__. Any black guy who plays guitar after Hendrix is just like Hendrix. For all the reasons they may or may not be alike, most people IME who make that comparison can't name any beyond that. Murica: at least it's not Sudan.

If the only similarities between Prince and Hendrix where that they are both black and play guitar, then you would have a valid point.
These comparisons are based on PLENTY of factors. Some playing style, some stage style, some clothing style. They are not identical, but there are enough similarities to make the comparison. I could find you a dozen photos of Prince looking like Hendrix. (hell, some of them are on this very thread.) The song "Dreamer" from Lotusflow3r, although came along well after the comparisons, help validate the claim. Prince's track "Purple House" on the Hendrix tribute album, as well. Seems like both Prince and Hendrix estate see similarities as well, and embrace them.
Unfortunately, typing text over the internet is no substitute for convrsation. Negative tone can be read into anything, things can be misinterpreted, etc. So forgive me, but I'm not a fan of the idea that just because people compare two perple that are the same race, that it is all about race and that those people are just stereotyping. I feel like maybe your take on the matter is kinda similar form of stereotyping.
But I'm not mad about it, or at anyone. I offer my opinion with all due respect. I could be totally wrong.
