Would Prince be into DEATH?

If you haven't heard of them, look them up. 1976 African-American proto-punk band. Glory to God.

Doubt it, but he'd probably enjoy the film a lot.

.

It would probably validate some of his own beliefs that if people don't like his new music it's because they're "not ready" for it. He doesn't seem like he'd be impressed with anything that reminded him too much of his own crew, or guys he knew with unrealized dreams. Likewise, I've also never seen him comment on Fishbone or Beatnigs.

I'm enjoying some Death myself, but I have no idea about Prince.

He jammed with them? Didn't know. The sampling wouldn't mean he's automatically a fan, but I actually forgot he used that.

I think he's mentioned they were one if his favorite bands in an old interview if my memory serves...

He has commented on Fishbone. He mentioned a show he saw once where the drummer played with his back to the band and that impressed him greatly. They are great musicians, but it's too bad their song are fucking weak, though.

Of course he would be into Death.Prince is a music fan and that's a good album.Prince probably listened to the album when it was finally released and he was into punk rock back in the day.

Yeah, Dirty Mind was very punk rock, not in a musical sense, but the attitude of it, wearing a thong and leather jacket on the cover, having songs about incest and oral sex, not to mention the last lines of "Partyup" being politically charged, he had balls to do that in 1980. Death too. The fearless attitude of 3 black guys in '76 playing fast, loud music speaks more volume than whether or not some people want to classify them as punk.

Agree. They also perform with a lot of energy, otherwise I think a lot of attention they get is based on novelty.

Death are interesting, but mostly because Hardcore as a genre came along to validate them.

Kinda seems like Prince is drawn to a lot of female artists these days, that you can play in the background like it's Bossa Nova.

If I remember correctly, he said that he wasn't sure if Fishbone was good or not. Then he made the comment about the drummer playing with his back to the audience and that there was "some kind of excellence" to that.

I also remember the NPG members mentioning the band (including Prince, possibly) going to see Primus. So it seems that Prince was interested in that type of late-80s, early-90s crazy, "funkmetal" stuff, as many musicians were at the time.

That type of music seems to have very little cultural relevance now, I'm afraid.

oh god, i was just playing Authere Brothers where they sang "I want my f*cking Death tape back".

I genuinely did not get it at the time but if you could feel the belly gut chuckle response right now i swear it is up there with anything else on the net.
