PEACH & BLACK PODCAST : May 2014 News Episode

First Aired: Friday, May 23rd, 2014
Running Time: 68mins

http://peachandblack.podb...2014-news/

It's been a long time coming (almost 4 years in fact !!) since our last official 'news episode' so we are finally back in May 2014 with a News episode to discuss all the recent (and some future) events in the Prince world.

.

Sorry to be annoying boys, but can I ask why you are so coy about mentioning bootlegs on the show? I've noticed this before, and you did it again when mentioning the Electric Intercourse performance.

Anyways, great to hear you guys as always, always enjoy the show.

I think that's most negative you guys have ever been.

You really don't seem to like his recent output and seem to have very little hope of the Purple Rain remaster being any good.

Shame you didn't discuss the most recent tracks in more depth.

Haha nice show guys.

I agree on the recent songs discussion, there's more to talk about!

I really hope Toejam mentioned my 'love for Donna's solos' on the forums razz

Captain, I love your crazy ass but that intro was not funny! You had me going for a minute there lol

Only half way through the show and yes you guys do sound negative. I thought it was a drag at first but I guess I can understand it.

I also can't believe you guys don't like Fallinlove2nite.

Just finished the show and you guys were even more negative than I thought. You sound like grumpy old men. As far as song titles he's only come up with thousands...so you don't like the new ones..maybe he's used all the ones you would like up!!

WOW..super negative. I hope you guys have more encouraging shows in the future. If you're that disatisfied with him now...why keep up with him. Yes it sounds like some of you have been on this board too long or too much lately!!

We just need an Australian tour I think.. That will fix everything I'm sure wink

Hopefully 3EG get down here sooner than later..

Not the intro, though. The intro made me sad.

Great show as always. Didn't find it negative, just because you guys were not gushing about recent output and potential upcoming releases. And that is fair enough, it's honest, and you're saying it like it is because musically 3EG are inferior to all other Prince bands and outputs, and because this faffing around about upcoming albums and remasters is getting a bit tired. Needed to be said and you guys did it in your usual professional and knowledgable way.

And yeah, we need an Australian tour. Preferably with the NPG. razz

Awesome show. I did not know these guys met with Prince in 2010. I listened to that show too. I did find that I wanted to know more about Prince the person. I loved that Prince also considers his SOTT and Lovesexy CDs to be crappy sound.

I wanted to know a bit more about what he was like-

First off, damn you, Captain. lol Second, you guys had me in stitches. Didn't find the podcast negative either even if it tempered my expectations for the alleged upcoming releases. Anything and everything is possible, and nothing is guaranteed with Prince. A good dose of skepticism will probably keep me sane in the long run!

I think I followed what MC was saying and I'm also not entirely sure what benefit the Warners deal will bring us fans. Glad that Prince got what he fought for (in 30-yrs. wink ), but I need more than just a Purple Rain remaster to make me spend my hard earned cash. Could go for any of the options you all mentioned though I sincerely hope, whatever the outcome, that no new Prince album or 3EG album is released at the same time. I don't think the potential comparisons between old and new, regardless of Prince's faith in their respective quality, would be fair/favorable. The Org probably would combust.

About the 3EG songs, yeah, I haven't bought them either. The lyrics are a real bummer, as harsh on my ears as the all caps titles are on my eyes. dead lol Still looking forward to more discussion of them and any new material, whenever whatever is released. I'm sure a Peach & Black discussion will uncover something... Thanks, guys. smile

? So the band where Kirk Johnson was learning to play drums, so they used backing tapes a lot was better? Rhonda better than Ida???? Hell no. Kat Dyson better than Donna on guitar??? Are you serious??? That 1997-98 band was terrible. 3EG are not Prince's best band ever, but they can play. And at least they do play full length songs a lot more than some other Prince eras.

Yeah I have to agree with that

- the 1997 band with Kirk on the kit were pretty average,

I would definitely rate 3EG higher up the list than that 'band'..

I can totally understand someone not liking 3rd Eye Girl if you've only heard the studio stuff, imo quite a lot of it is pretty weak, but live I think they really do a great job, I hope they'll come to Australia soon so you guys can witness it. Have any of you seen him play Endorphinmachine yet?

I hope they get down here ASAP too ! Reading repoorts and setlists is one thing but it is a totally experience when you are actually there...

Even a hits setlist can look boring on paper but if he is in the right mood, he can totally blow your head off...

I'm not sure but I 'think' MC has seen Endorphinmachine at one of the Euro shows a few years back..

Ok fair point. Maybe not all other bands. razz

There is something that bothers me about 3EG and it's not just that I prefer funk over rock but I can't put my finger on it. And I feel bad about it because they work hard for sure. I really really try to like them and listen to every new song and live snippet etc. Not sure that they do Prince's music justice. Although he must be his own best judge? What disappointed me the other day was when I heard a recording of What's my name live and it sounded so sluggish. Anyway, I would go and see them live, for sure. No question. And who knows maybe they blow my mind. I am quite open to having my mind blown!

Regarding Ida is better than Rhonda? Not convinced. However, of the 3 band members, she is the strongest imho and the one who can play funky.

Shall we ignore Joshua "ham it up" Welton ...?

Great show chaps - keep 'em coming. Shame you don't review his songs released on the web starting with "Rock'n'Roll Love Affair" or are you waiting for "Plektrum Elektrum" to be released first?

Re: 3rdEyeGirl. You really have to see them live (preferably in a smaller venue) for them to make a lot of sense. Prince is trying out a new direction with this 'garage-rock' sound (of which I am a fan), however this does not translate as well to vinyl from what I've heard so far - some of it might do if he ever releases "Plektrum Elektrum". I was fortunate enough to witness one of his guerilla gigs in London in February at Shepherds Bush - and I thought it was fantastic and I've seen him loads since '88. He will inevitably go in another direction in the not too distant future so I'm happy to go along for the ride - always am!
