Actually, I don't see many FAMS left on this site...God knows I've had my rumbles with them (I once got into argument with a P-FAM because they were insulted that I referred to P as The Midget...)...So I see wher you are coming from in a way....

However, what I see now is a bunch of folks trying too hard to be cool...Folks who believe belittling someone who thinks that something as mundane as believing that Prince is a better guitarist than he was in the '80s can be viewed as blind worship...

Like I said, there's two sides to this coin....There are the folks that believe that Prince's shit smells like Ice cream, Lavender, and sunshine...And there are the others who believe that it's not cool to praise Prince because it may look like you are kissing his ass....

To be honest, as dismayed as I was with the behavior of some of the more hardcore FAMS, I'm as equally bewildered at how this site has transformed into a petty, mean-spirited Bitch-fest populated by folks who believe that Prince is a Has-Ben....And that's the only convo to be had...

The irony is I can almost understand the LOONS being at a Prince website because it is a Prince Fansite....But what's the excuse of folks who spend their times making yet another post about how Prince has lost it and that you are boot licking FAM for thinking otherwise....

I don't think people understand this rarely takes place on other fan sites....

It is what it is....U guys keep being cool....

I see your point.

I think there is something cultesque about Prince. He is more a magnet to the loons like Michael Jackson, than the likes of Bowie.

However maybe the rub comes from those that view Prince as an icon (the MJ flavour) against those that talk about the musicial (the Bowie Flavour).

The cult of Prince. Are we part of the cult because we are posting views and opinions on a fan site? It's possible.I've never been part of a cult before.

Prince is great.

Bowie is great.

Both are alive.

Thats damn cool.

When all this shit was happening i was like 13 and listening to shitty animu music

>tfw just admitted to being a weeaboo in her past

But yeah, the whole 'negative' thing have seen attributed to the org a lot. I was talking to a guy in the line when Prince played the academy in Febuary and he said he left because of the drama and arguments.

When i see somewhat negative threads now and again i just ignore them for the most part.

Had the exact same conversations with people in the line at Koko. They'd all left the org.

I'm in a Prince group on Facebook with at least a thousand members. When I mentioned there that I'd become a mod here, a LOT of people replied with "I don't like that site, there's too much negativity and too many people complaining all the time".

Same thing on a G+ group I'm in.

Very true! I always come here to check about news of the remasters, but I try to keep my opinions (about P) to myself. This is the only place on the internet I know of where you can say something like, "I like 'Venus De Milo'!" and someone will tell you to log off and kill yourself. neutral

I just come here for the entertainment with you all these days. I can find out Prince news faster on twitter than I can here. I think people who hand on Bowie's forum are older than average. I recognize he has younger fans that are probably the product of his collab and tour with NIN and the Earthling album, but I don't see them hanging out on his fan pages or forum very much. Prince fans are just all over the place, and it seems the craziest ones can sometimes be the most vocal. There are some scarily obsessed Prince fans that I see sometimes on the internet on twitter and facebook and I'm actually very thankful I don't see them posting here.

Change it one more time..

Bowie himself is a pretty big music fan, and generous welcoming spirit (at least at this point in his life), so maybe that translates to his fanbase some. Prince himself isn't someone I would expect is very exposed and open minded to other artists. I don't know, but maybe that has something to do with it.

Bowie tends to inspire a classier breed of fan. I have had very intelligent conversations with vitually every Bowie fan I've ever met. Here, for the most part, we get that fucking MASTERPIECE dude/chick.

I think Housequake was where most of the reasonable fans liked to hang out.

When it shut down I had to come over here and I feel like I've lost IQ points in the process.

That mysterious, spiritual teacher bullshit brings the weirdos out of the woodwork. Game wreckonize game, I suppose.

yeah, tbh i think people over exaggerate the level of negativity on here. Sure, there are some posters that have nothing but bad things to say about Prince, but then theres 5 more to that one person who will sing his praises.

When i see pointless negative threads, I usually only see them once every now and again really and just ignore them.

But you know, I dont know what the org used to be like back in the day when Housequake was still up because I wasnt interested in music at that time.

yeahthat People's preception is why they think what they do but if we were to do an actual anaysis, we'd see it's not as bad as they make it out to be here.

There are some FB Prince groups that are cool but you don't get the conversation and in depth talk you will here on this type of forum. A lot of FB groups people just LIKE photos and say a 1 or 2 word comment if that.

Maybe the old Prince wasn't but I think in recent years the complete opposite is true. He shines the spotlight a lot on other artists, to the point where some orgers even start to bitch about it (e.g. all the stage time he gave Andy Allo). And I wouldn't have heard about Laura Mvula or Lianne La Havas if he never called them out.. there's plenty of other examples.

Change it one more time..

Word.

I like the org. Sure there are some extremes on either side, but I found some of the alternative forums just as frustrating at times. Housequake was great, but the level of interaction was lower. As for facebook/twitter, its more a news feed.

I like things like the Prince Museum on Facebook, because I love some of the crazy shit they find, but most comments are meaningless, and the platform doesn't lend to interaction.

In regard to the extreme fan/fams on here, they really are a minority, they just feel bigger because they tend to like stirring things. I pretty much ignore them. The fact they they feel the need to cause issue tells me a lot about the mental state.

I love it when people declare they are leaving the org for whatever reason. If thats not a cry for attention, I don't know what is. Playground/school yard stuff. And I would prefer an official forum, so the worst of the fams could go and suck purple pole in peace, but even Prince got pissed off with them and closed it down.

My life is too good in the real world to worry about those people who don't have one.

Fair point, I just find he's attracted to a certain type of artist and don't really value who he's hyping up as coming from a knowledgeable position, it's just who somehow broke into his sphere of awareness with the right timing. Bowie is a little more intellectual and knows good literature, and seeks out new music in various genres. Bowie's also kind of retired and dabbling in things he loves at this point, not actively hustling. It makes it easy for his fans to share in his interests, rather than like, fixate on his current hair length. His attitude is something that fans can pick up on...whereas with Prince, you either like his taste or you don't.

LOL very true

Negative members always come across as the loudest, that just a mirror of society

It's funny how there are people who trash the org on FB and other sites, but always seem to know what happening on the ORG because they are always checking it out. and taking info and pics post here

We get to the nitty gritty here

Now it's mostly threads about how horrible Prince fans are.

The org posts improved overnight, when the NPGMC introduced a forum.

As soon as the fams left, civil debates broke out. Although the fams claim to be the 'positive' ones, they are actually the instigators of most arguments.

The day the NPGMC forum shut, the org pages began filling up with devotion picture threads and silly topics.

Therefore, the org itself is not the problem, but the sheep haven't got anywhere else to hang out and babble.

lol Spot on!

If you need Prince to point out those artists (who got tons of press), I cannot imagine how limited your musical menu is. It takes so little effort to every now and then visit some of the major music websites and check out what albums they're giving high scores to or what artists they feature prominently.

.

I mean: Lianne La Havas' debut album Is Your Love Big Enough? was awarded the title of iTunes Album of The Year 2012. And that's just one of many accolades she got.

.

Seriously, don't wait for Prince to get a clue (he only endorses safe artists anyway) and go discover great music yourself. Check out these just to get a peek at the rich musical landscape that's out there: tUnE-yArDs, St. Vincent, Mogwai, Todd Terje, The War On Drugs, Dirty Projectors, The Weeknd, SOHN, Blood Orange, Parquet Courts, Chromeo, Damon Albarn, Lorde, John Frusciante, Neneh Cherry, Warpaint, London Grammar, Chvrches, Kendrick Lamar, Poliça, The Civil Wars, James Blake,...
