I wasnt born when this movie came out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If i had been I would of certainly been queing for hours to see it. I hope they release the movie again for its 30th aniversary in select cinemas (in the uk too!) just so i can see it on the big screen.

I hear a lot of stories on here about their parents not wanting them to go see it when they were younger, compared to now the stuff depicted in the movie isnt really all that big.

I will never forget it. People singing and dancing by the end of the movie. It was electric. A few weeks later I purchased a purple Izod jacket. Did not care if I got made fun of at school. Purple became my color. Put gel in my curly hair to make it look wet. I thought I was Prince.

Hee hee, I know what you mean - I used to ride my ten-speed down to the creek, stand by the water and look 'moody'. lol

What I remember most about seeing the film was that it was playing in a double-cinema alongside the Temple of Doom. At the last minute, my friend said maybe we should see Indy instead and I was like, "fat chance, buddy!" biggrin

I didn't see it till it was on video or TV. I must have been around 6. I was at my uncles house and he didn't have any kids and wasn't very censor centric.

I will never forget it because it was the VERY first time I ever saw boobies. I loved me dem apples. biggrin. I think its helped me favor larger areolas. biggrin

I was 14 and didn't get to see it in the theater because of my 17 year old cousin. She saw it and told my mom that it was as bad as a porno. Dumbass!

When it came out on VHS, mom still wouldn't let me rent it.

When it came out on cable...

Well one night mom came down the stairs and caught me watching it. I told her my cousin was stupid, it was not pornography, I had seen worse in horror movies she let me watch, I'm watching it!

She decided to let that slide!!

wink

"as bad as a porno", gimme a break!

I was 12 when the movie came out, but wasn't allowed to see it. My parents thought Prince was some kind of devil/demon who would destroy my poor little soul. I think I was 16 or 17 when I first saw it. I did own the PR record from when i was 12 years old, loved it to death!

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I was 11 and lied to my parents that I was going to see the Karate Kid. Our neighbors took me. The Warren Cinema off of 8 mile and Schoenherr road.

So all the older teens went opening night. I remember the girls (neighbors and what not) huddled around talking about it the next day and doing the I Would Die 4 U hand movements. I went along with a car full of cousins to the Ford Wyoming Drive-In that Sunday, we sat on the roof of the car riveted!

The next week I saw it again in a crowded theater downtown in Detroit. You would have thought it was an actual concert the way those girls screamed throughout the movie!

Yeah I didn't see it until, like, about 2004/2005 or so. Late comer.

I remember there being a showing at the Prince Charles cinema a while ago on Leicester square, but yeah, a general rerelease would be great.

I didn't see it at the cinema as I was too young when it came out. The first time I watched it was a VHS copy that I bought and it became my favourite film. Purple Rain takes u into another world, one that u wanna be part of. I love everyone in it and I thought OMG Prince is a pretty good actor!

Warner Bros should re-release it in the cinemas [including UK] and on DVD including all those deleted scenes. That wud be shamazing.

I was 23 at the time. My feelings about the movie haven't changed - the acting and plot are thin, but the musical performances are great. Two stars.
