Prince mentioned on NBC Nightly News today

For those of you that haven't already seen it, Prince was mentioned on NBC Nightly News towards the end of the broadcast.

"for those that haven't seen it, I'm not going to tell you anything at all".

.

I heard a brief snippet of 'Wild and loose' on 'Bargain Hunt' on UK BBC TV yesterday. It's a crappy show where weird old people buy cheap antiques and try to sell them at auction for a superior profit against a rival team doing the same. For some reason i keep hearing Prince's music on these random shows on the Beeb.

.

At least you learnt something there.

so what happened

They basically mentioned Prince's reasons for not using bad language anymore in his songs. They quoted Prince as saying that Muhammed Ali never cussed while fighting, etc. They showed a bunch of pictures of Prince but no interview with him was shown.

Didn't Ali indulge in some rather offensive smack-talking though? I seem to remember him calling Joe Frazier a "dumb nigger". Hardly the best person to emulate in that regard.

Don't know about that, but he insulted people all the time. That's for sure.

"What's my name?" is something he and P have in common. Also for sure. smile

Smack talking is not cursing and he smack talked to build up interest and tickets sales for the fights.

I doubt Ali used the N word but he later apolized for the bashing he gave Frazier. He realized he went overboard with it just like P realized he was overboard with his language.

the question was probably asked in the latest interview of him in the Essence mag. Usually when celebrities do interviews journalists take the juiciest bits and make stories out of them. This is actually good news for Prince, as it means for the first time in many years he didn't say anything that was extremely controversial. Good job P! lol

He mentioned it in the Essence article thus it made the news. Good PR for him.

They just mentioned Prince on Rickey Smiley's show Dish Nation. They showed the Essence cover that he'll be on next month. I guess there's no real reason for it to be on national news, you can thank his publicist for that. You know how they celebs roll, they pay to get all the media coverage, just ask Jay-Z lol.....There are some celebs that I wish would take a long break of a few years instead of cramming their presence down our throats. I won't mention any names but there are some folks in the music biz who seriously need to just go away for a while. Overexposed and overrated artists stay relevant by paying off the entertainment biz goons that have a chokehold on the business.

Yeah, I just saw that on The View.
I'm afraid I agree with the org'er who thinks this reiteration of his "cleaned up" language is preparing us for a reworked/cleaned up Purple Rain album. But I don't think you can change the language of Darling Nikki, the lyrics match the slinky sexiness of the music itself. He only thing he can do is remove the song, maybe replace it with another song.
Best case scenario is that he doesn't change the original songs on Purple Rain, but this publicity about his "cleaned up" act is an apology of sorts ahead of the rerelease of Purple Rain in all it's raunchy glory!

Well, the last thing does make sense. Maybe he asked Warners to do that for him, to put him out there as changed figure, safe for the kids and our grandparents. And we all know grandparents and kids don't have much taste in pop music! (Paul Anka, Justin Bieber)

It looks like a media-blitz targeting black women over 40. They will probably do this one level at a time, but first they are clearly trying to rally Prince's base audience, before reminding the rest of the world how much they love Prince music. I notice the stories always say something along the lines of "Prince doesn't curse in his NEW music" so I doubt a decision has been made to censor the old music... yet. You would think someone at WB would have already shot down the censoring rumour, though, so it must be in play. If the songs are edited, then Prince will pretty much lose all credibility with the average Prince fan. I mean, he could sell you an edited Purple Rain and you may not realize it until you purchase it, but then you are LoveSexy-all-one-track-cd levels annoyed and you won't bother to pick up any future remasters. Prince would be repeating the same mistakes he made with the average music fan in the 80's and 90's.

^^ That doesn't mean he won't repeat those same mistakes! He's good at annoying his fans.

Anyway, I agree that it doesn't make sense to edit PR, so I hope this media is just about reminding/telling people that he's changed, sort of as an "apology" for his raunchy earlier work, which he will rerelease in it's original glory.

The corporate media always controls who and what you see and hear. In lieu of the new business arrangement Prince is back in WB's good graces hence their considerable media machine is behind him one hundred percent again. I wonder how it feels to come in out of the cold? Pretty good I imagine, especially on his own terms.

As far as being on the national news, in case you haven't noticed the news these days is half celebrity fluff stories for several years now. Info-tainment is part of the general dumbing down of America.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
