Back in day? I'd agree with this. Now? Not so much. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Imagine the MJ vs Prince threads we would have had then. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Exactly. Prince practically IS the Willy Wonka of rock. MJ would work (which I think was Depp's model) but there's that creepy pedo vibe to that whole thing. Substitute purple tickets for gold one, Paisley Park for the factory, the eccentricity, the music and the enigmatic and moody nature of the title character and Prince would barely have to act (which is probabaly a good thing). The music parts alone would be perfect and Prince has that nice balance between funny, creepy, weird, nice, genious, reclusive, mysterious...
.
I could maybe see him playing a Batman villain or something like that but like other posters pointed out, he's just "so much Prince" all the time that it'd be hard to find a believable role for him. Even in New Girl, playng himself, he was pretty bad so you'd have to cast him perfectly and (more importantly) take direction, which I doubt is his strong suit.
.
Edit: ^^^Holy shit^^^ That's terrific. Prince would make a great Frank N Furter.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

May I ask what exactly you're basing this opinion on? I've seen most of the Ainley stories, and a few of the Delgado ones (the Pertwee era's always been a bit too padded out for my liking), and I can't say I've remarked upon any facet of Prince's acting or personality that would contribute to a good portrayal of the Master. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

Hmm, normally by now someone here has said "Hey, if you think you can do better show us your work!". That is when it comes to music composition and instrument ability. This however is acting and the reason I don't think we've seen that challenge yet from the sycophantic quarter is because several of us would step up and provve we are better actors than Prince. Hell, my daughter's dead hamster could give him a run for his money
Prince plays Prince. As Genesia said, a good actor can adapt and bring any character to life. There are good actors (Pillip Seymour Hoffman) and there are abysmal actors (Keanue Reeves). The former gets you to believe in the character they are playing, the latter is actually made of wood and through the clever use of string and wire they manipulate his body to make him look and move like a real boy. Just.
I would go to see a Prince movie obviously but if his music wasn't in it I think I'd wait for it to hit tv.

If the part fits him, why not.

You had me in agreement 'til you just had to drag Keanu into it. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.
