Starfish and coffee - which version?

Simple question, which do you prefer, original SOTT version or reboot as played on Muppets?

Oh, and.....

I enjoyed The Muppets version in context with the visuals but for general listening, original all the way.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

The Oh, oh oh refrain in the 90's version is just so... well, so Prince in the 90's. And so unnecessary. I prefer the original.

And no, I did not mean to imply that Prince in the 90's was unnecessary. Just the new bit in that song.

Funny you should bring this up today! I was listening to Lenka Paris's mini-SOTT mix at work this morning and noticed she included the full updated version of SAC at the end. I think the version I had before was taken directly from the Muppets show and not the full thing... not sure though, will have to go check my collection at home to see if I've had the longer version all along with out realizing it.

I do love the muppets version just because of Prince and all the muppets characters dancing and singing together but i guess the original for listening always has to win.

Listen to the original with headphones. The "Whoa-oh-oh" part is there, but in the background.

I've said this before but SAC should've been a single.

So it is... but it's done a couple of times as a backing part, behind a lead lyric. It doesn't take up 30 seconds worth of the song. Actually, I've usually listened to the 90's version in the shortened Muppets appearance version--I'd forgotten about the whole musical bit after Cynthia writes on the walls. Not wild about that either. However, there were some nice new parts, particularly vocally down in the mix. I don't think I'd ever listened to the new version on headphones (as I just did)--the bass kind of rumbles along there, doesn't it?

I prefer it better live to either of those. The way he sung (the part that he did) in Dortmund was better than the studio, imo, because of the way he delivered the "if you set your mind free, baby" line.. love that.

Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

The original, of course.

The Muppets version is okay, but as it doesn't have the sparseness of the original, it lacks the artistic vibe of the SOTT era completely. It becomes just a contemporary children's song with all the added stuff on it.

I like how he took the trouble to rework it. It's interesting, but I'm not keen on the keyboard stab or the way he changed the pronunciation of coffee to "coffay".
