Now That Prince Has A New Contract With Warner's Should He Make Another Attempt At Acting?

Maybe he can get financing for a Jimi Hendrix or even say a Sly Larry Graham bio.

No. Even though I thought he did a decent job in Purple Rain, Prince is simply too recognizable (and too much himself) to transform the way an actor needs to, to be "real" in a part.

The best actors are "shapeshifters" - able to vary their natural rhythm and physicality so they melt into a role and become invisible as themselves. (Daniel Day-Lewis is probably the best example of this kind of actor.) Prince worked as The Kid because, on some level, he was The Kid. I question his ability to do that in a role with which he doesn't identify so strongly.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yes, I think he should. Most musicians do movies these days, Eminem's done a few, Andre 3000 is playing Hendrix in a new movie, and just this morning I saw a poster for a new movie starring The RZA alongside the late Paul Walker.

I agree with Genesia. However, a movie in the style of the Beatles "Let It Be" could be really interesting. Show us Prince and his band rehearsing for a concert, recording music for the new album, etc., inside Paisley Park, then culminate with the actual concert. I would love to see that.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

A "fly on the wall" documentary would be amazing.

I agree. Prince is still trying to live down "Graffitti Bridge". I would love to see Prince shoot a music documentary and concert similar to "Santana: Corazon Live". Play songs in their entirety, in a nice locale, with Prince making comments off-stage and have his friends and collaborators talk about his creativity. Something heartfelt and genuine.

I want to see what Kevin Smith shot in 2001. You'll NEVER get a real fly on the wall, warts and all documentary from Prince. That's a bit rubbish.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

If we're talking movies in which he plays a character, no!

I would, however, like to see Prince do more cameo TV appearances. I thought the script and premise for New Girl was contrived and forced, but I think he did a decent job on the show.

The last time he did SNL, I kept wating for him to appear in one of the sketches. Even though I think the writing on SNL is hit or miss, I'd love to see him make an appearance as the musical act and have himself written in to a couple sketches on the show, too. I don't think he's capable of playing a character too far removed from his own persona, but I think he could pull of SNL since he wouldn't be expected to be taken too seriously as a comedic actor.

Hell, he appeared on Muppets Tonight years ago, and I never saw that coming.

No.

I mean it'd be nice if he had small parts in mivies every once in a while but starring in one? HELL NO! Prince is too much Prince. The Kid was Prince. Christopher Tracy was Prince. P can't act any other role than Prince if u ask me.

No. And what does a distribution/licensing contract for music have to do with acting any way?

Maybe he could act grateful that Warner offers the best chance to restore his legacy to popular (youth) culture. To be fair I know despite the vitriol and acrimony Prince and Warner Brothers still equals mutual success. To answer your question I loved his performance in Purple Rain, and in Under the Cherry Moon. I do have enough critical thought to realise you need to be a Prince fan to love Under the Cherry Moon like I do, and the film contains is so light and frothy it does not engage in real dramatic acting. Prince is best in cameos in tv shows and movies. Just because he could act well does not mean he should act. His ultimate performance is in concert or concert videos. This is where his importance is as an artist. I do miss the charm humour and prescence that Prince could offer to a role but feel for ever Purple Rain he has on film he has ten or 15 Graffiti bridges. Put him in with Scorsese and I am sure he would either be fantastic or be left on the cutting room. I would love for Prince to hit a home run by writing a hit soundtrack rather than playin Lenny Kravitz's Uncle Camille in some guest appearance though.

I love the willy wonka idea suggested above. The Willy Wonka of funk. Paisely park would be his factory. He would have been better than Johnny Depp and I am a Depp fan. We know he might be interested as he already did a golden or purple ticket idea once didn't he.

Which is why I think Willy Wonka would have been just perfect for him.

In the late 80's, one of the american broadcasting companies wanted Michael Jackson to play The Doctor in an american version of Doctor Who.

Ever since I read that, I've thought about how Prince would be perfect for the role of The Master, who is the arch rival of The Doctor. He could do in more of the style of the Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley, who both did a wonderful job playing The Master in the classic series.
