The Breakdown or The One?? Hey, which song do you prefer? Having now listened to the two of them, I do like the Breakdown, but I think The One is a better song (IMHO)

Theyre both good tracks IMO. They're different enough that I wouldn't compare them in my head. Change it one more time..

No comparison for me.
The One, most definitely! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Definitely prefer The One but I like them both.

It's very close, but I prefer The Breakdown. |

The One "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I prefer "The Breakdown" by a significant margin. I like "The One," but I think "Come On" and "Wasted Kisses" are the real gems on NPS.

The One What? | |

Easily The Breakdown, I always find The One quite boring. RIP

I'm a big fan of The Breakdown, but The One is a classic, one of his best recordings of the '90s for sure. I'll go with The One. * * *

I'm not a huge fan of The One but at least the lyrics say something...The Breakdown uses an emotive feel and pretends to be deep and emotional...but it actually makes no sense at all.
It basically say I used to want loads if material things and live the wild life but none of that matters anymore because he's split up with somebody...then goes in to contradict himself by implying he does really care that much he just wants the time back that he's wasted [Edited 4/26/14 0:01am] P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

I prefer The One mostly cuz of the lyrics, but both are great songs Welcome 2 The Dawn

The One! Better lyrics, better production and Clare's strings. The only thing i didn't like about it was the flute and harp being done on a synthesiser. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

2 completely different songs. 2 different feels,2 different meanings. Hard to compare the 2. If you prefer the arrogant/sexy/romantic Prince, then The One wins. But if you prefer a more vulnerable, honest, humbled prince, then The Breakdown wins. I, personally can't pick a winner, because I like both sides of Prince.

The One. Lyrics are better, but I like the breakdown. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

The One, a gazillion times! I can remember the EXACT moment I listened to it - it was on the Radio and was a surprise for me. I thought: Wow, it sounds like a Prince song... and it was! It was late nite and I stayed up so the first thing in the morning I was at the record store to buy the album (New Power Soul).

The One features VASTLY superior musicianship, (fact) and the lyrics are better, (opinion). Badass fretless bass by Rhonda.

I'm going with "The One", only because it's longer and has had 16yrs worth of sentimental value added to it. But ask me tomorrow and I might change my mind. Both stunning songs. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com
