Prince mentioning Pharrell gives him major props in his own lil way. Pharrell has got 2 b besides himself in enthusiasm! 4 the shout out by the KING of the muziq industry... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Prince's innerview with Nile shows how knowledgeable Prince is in muziq history & that he does his research. What bothers me is when people make him out 2 b this space cadet, that only cares about his muziq. Prince is very articulate & no dummy. He can actually write his own column in this magazine if he wanted . This innerview shows how proud he really is of his band NPG! But @ the same time giving respect 2 The Revolution & putting an end to the never ending Revolution reunion rumors(which is fine with me).
But why are u quoting the majority of the innerview? Some here haven't read it yet... [Edited 5/10/14 17:17pm] will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! True, but I guess I didn't want to spoil it for those who didn't get it yet. Not sure when it's available outside of the U.S. [Edited 5/10/14 19:43pm]

That's what I got from the interview and he mentioned this before in a past interview. I guess it is obvious from some of his statements in the Essence interview, that at that time, he felt stifled in a creative sense, musically. Playing the same songs long term, because they were promoting the movie and album. Truth be told, when you look at it, his stage image during that whole Purple Rain tour, was the character 'the kid' (costume and all). Same goes for the Revolution band members during the Purple Rain tour. When I look back, it now seems like their stage image emulated their characters from the Purple Rain movie, as though their characters walked out of the movie screen, and came to life on stage. That could be the images many fans held/still hold on onto of them-like fantasy images they fell in love with and don't want to let go. When I think of the Revolution band members, the Purple Rain movie immediately comes to mind, moreso than any memory of them doing anything outside of that movie. But regardless of all that, the Purple Rain era, has its legacy in the history of Prince music, and remains as it was, because although that era can't be repeated, it will always be great music for nostalgic reasons. on what basis do you say that?, how do you know?...is he just NOT allowed to look back 30 years before & rethink things? Looking at how the setlists varied so little & what a monster tour P.Rain was + the movie + the mega hype then it is reasonable to assume that it would have affected even the most grounded of stars. Suspect Madonna, GaGa, Bruce & many others will look back at a golden period with an element of regret?

Prince is over, he's just trying to keep up with the media and all, he should release the re issue of PR and the rest of his 80's output, release a full satisfying documentary about his life as an artist (including footage from the studio) and then quit (once in a while do a gig with Led Zeppelin or something)

I'm surprised there has not been more discussion of Prince's interview of Nile Rodgers. Is this possibly the first time he has interviewed anyone? Is it real? Interesting that there was no back story given on how this interview was set up or if it took place in person or via email or phone..
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You did not even bother to read the interview. He is very articulate in this interview and if you have a hard time following him in this interview you may have a reading problem. I also find your desire for Prince to work with men to be fucking strange as he has worked with more women than man across his carreer. [Edited 5/14/14 20:54pm]

No the interview is not real. Nile will be Prince's guest at the Essence fest but the magazine decided to print a fake interview

"interview" is an interesting word
to me it just seems like they are trying to promote the festival and may have gotten their approval to print it but whether or not they both sat down and had a real interview is anybody's guess
love the ad for Newport cigs............didn't know they still use black people in those ads (kinda sad)
