New Pedal Rig/Setup?

i was on twitter earlier and i seen a pic what was labeled as Ida's pedals for her bass, Donna's pedals and prince's pedals but it is NOT the rig we are all accustomed to seeing. can anybody shed any light on this?

To what I understand and I may be wrong but Prince seemed to use mainly an all Boss pedal board for years. This (Boss pedal board) may have been a fine sound/tone for the 80's but has been one of the reasons in my opinion that his sound started sounding stale/thin as time went by. I have read stories that Prince was not that concerned with switching up pedals for sound rather was more about the feel of his playing.

Now my theory is "Donna!" and the intro of 3rd eye Girl is when the tone changed. When I would see any pictures of her set up she usually had not one but three pedal boards and with like 20 pedals deep on each board. Also I would see pics with her on the ground tweaking/playing with the pedals and I thought hard core pedal addict. For people who don't know pedal collecting and knowing the different tones and functions of effects pedals is endless OCD/addiction, geek out mania land.

Looking back at some work of hers before 3rdeye she was really influenced with that 60's 70's Rock and Roll guitar sound and playing style. Of all Prince's past guitar players at this point I think Donna is the best compliment to Prince's guitar playing. With other players they just seem to copy his playing in a Casio kind of way, but with Donna she seems to channel Prince's playing style mixed with her own feel.

This is a Prince queote from a article by: Jon Bream, Star Tribune, May 16, 2013:

“They are like my kids,” he said. “And I’m learning from them. Young people have the new ideas.”

The Master learns form the Student......

This new tone is one of the main reasons I am really digging 3rdeye and I would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this subject.

Agreed that's Donna's pedal board

I was front row at the Kings Place gig and his pedals were (If I remember rightly)

7 Boss Pedals.. Harmonizer (PS-6), Flanger (BF-3), Digital Delay (DD-3), Metal Zone (MT-2), Distortion (DS-1), Blues Driver (BO-2), Chromatic Tuner (TU-2), Cry Baby Wah, Digitech Whammy and a Line 6 Reverb Modeler (MM4)

Prince is still rocking the Boss wih a Line 6 Modulation box.

Boss has nothing to do with the 1980s sounding thin. That was the racks and rigs driven by power amps.

Boss makes fine stuff and your amp has a lot more to do with your tone and how pedals affect it.

I always thought he had terrible tone, however it was uniquely Prince! Actually that thin 80's tone that he had was okay for some stuff, but I like to see that he's still experimenting

What is the Van Halen pedal, a wah? I think it's interesting to see someone of Prince's level being humble enough to have another guitar player's stamp on his gear!

Just a thought. Prince always had the semi-circle pedalboard. Could this be Donna's?

oops, sorry someone else noticed this!

Exactly, you'd think he'd scrape off the EVH and put a prince in its place

Well Donna don't have a fancy little symbol she stole to replace it with.
