This is pretty interesting if true...

http://diaryofahollywoods...rain-pass/

can you imagine a tour of Prince & the Revolution w/ The Time and Sheila E. opening?

I had a dream last night that W&L, Dez, Fink, Bobby, BrownMark and Prince have been trolling us for 30 years now and actuially have been rehearsing and recording together forever having a big ole laugh waiting for this day to come

looks like a false story, but I would not be shocked if it happened. But it would likely include the Original 6ix. Maybe Prince could sue them for using The Time at some shows, and they would bring out some lawyers like Londell McMuffin, and they could change drum sets from The Time to The Original 6ix or 7ven.

Ok, that was pretty dumb, but I couldn't help it.

If Prince & the Revolution were to reuinite it woudl be the biggest tour of the decade.. Tickets would be next to impossible to get, but it would be a show that I would pay anything to see as PATR was my first Prince live experience and NOTHING is as good as the first time. So, I would be thrilled to see A Purple Rain 30th Anniversary Tour. I did however see The Time and Sheila E. open for Prince at Coachella. The only thing missing were the Revolution. It was Prince's most prolific and creative period ever. Nobody and take that away or try and downgrade that peroiod because the proof is in the pudding. Everything they did was magical.

For a 20th anniversary it would have been cool (minus Sheila plus The Revolution) but NOT for a 30th

This anniversay should be all about and only about "The Kid" !

It's not that outrageous. Prince and The Time played together at Coachella in 2008.

I call bullshit. First of all, the Associated Press would have to confirm their story before I believe a 2-bit blog. Secondly, the only reason Prince MIGHT reconnect with old associates is to iron out business matters like compensation or crediting for possible remastered reissue of protege albums. Sheila E. and Morris I can picture jamming with Prince for a few shows with the New Power Generation, but I suspect Prince is wary of reconnecting with Jill Jones and certain members of The Time because of the sordid history between himself and those individuals. Prince's new partnership with WB for these remasters of his seminal albums will set himself and his family financially for generations. Prince doesn't have the patience to deal with the baggage of that many protege acts for a tour.

In the meantime, I hope he works on releasing PLECTRUMELECTRUM with 3RDEYEGIRL and look forward on his current path.

Consider the source. How accurate is "Hollywood Street Kings?" How come it's not on any legit web sites? Also from this dubious webpage:

The timing will also mark three-decades since The Time broke up, back in 1984. Don’t believe me.. Just ask Judith.

“Prince has BEEN at odds with Morris Day and the other dudes in The Time.. but they’re all speaking again. So expect a tour soon.”

There's a Grand Canyon of space between speaking again and touring soon. Prince doesn't do actual tours anymore. And The Time don't seem to have any interest in touring. The whole Original Seven thing kinda fizzled after the album came out.

Who is Judith? And The Time did break up in '84, but has gotten back together twice since then. I don't buy "Hollywood Street Kings."

OH oh, they gotta be legit, they did an article called:

Prince is one Purple Ass House Nigga

February 12th, 2009

Check ya sources. Twice.

Am I the only one who fears that theses remasters will mean nothing to anyone but us diehards? I'm hoping for the best but fear that the PR remaster will not be the blockbuster that it's expected to be, and that will unfortunately affect the re-release of the rest of the catalog. Hoping I'm wrong, but I wouldnt at all be surprised.

Make it so, Number One...

That's the same question I posted in another thread lol Besides the Beatles,it's hard to find examples of remasters that were massive sellers.Alot of people who bought the albums the first time around, are not necessarily gonna rush out to buy the same album again, just because the sound is "improved".

I think the reconnecting is good, but if anyone's expecting a reunion tour? Maybe there's a special event planned at Paisley Park or inviting some of them as special guests in future tours. I don't think anyone in the band now is worried about getting pink slipped.

Prince has 2 possible strategies regarding remastering the side-projects:

1/ Ignoring the official "artists" and doing it on his own, hoping they'll b too afraid of his lawyers to try anything (or that they'll just admit that it's his music and let it go).

2/ Making peace with everyone involved and maybe offering them a small share of the benefits so they'll leave him alone and won't contest his ownership of the material (and help him promote the reissues in the media and social networks).

I've always been convinced he'd choose the first option but who knows...

Much as I would LOVE to get a set of remastered side project albums (ie, The Time, The Family, Jill Jones, Sheila E, Appolonia 6, Vanity 6, etc) I just do not see sufficient numbers of people wanting to buy this/them to justify the expense and time to do this!

From another thread:

.

"As I said every year forgotten gems (or even sometimes forgotten boring pieces of junk) are being rereleased and remastered by indie labels or majors sublabels (I'll give u that there r many people here like u who don't consider Prince's music to be real Prince music when he ain't singing, as if P was just a singer in the first place, I've never understood that, it's an absurdity to me: Prince isn't Whitney Houston). Maybe u wouldn't buy 'em: many other people would, including funk fans or pop fans who are not specifically Prince fans but like P's work among other funk/pop acts and may enjoy his side projects (I'm even quite sure that some people enjoy The Time more than Prince, it was the case at the time). Believing that these records will stay out of print forever is totally absurd, once again we're talking about one of the most influencial and important artists of the second half of the 20th century. The "worst" that could happen is that they'd be rereleased digitally only (digitally remastering albums ain't that expensive and releasing an album online implies no production costs), but believe me rereleasing that stuff with bonus material would make some money. I know people who run labels that sell between 10,000 and 50,000 copies of each album they release: it's their job and they make a living. Are you saying their lives and their jobs are meaningless? If WB isn't interested Prince can easily find small labels like Purple Music (just an example) that would dramatically increase their income by rereleasing that stuff because for them 50,000 copies is a lot of sales and money. WB could also let small sublabels they own do the job to make them a bit more profitable. Prince could simply do it himself by releasing the stuff digitally only. The problem with many people here is that they believe that the music industry is only majors and that any album in the world selling less than 500,000 copies is a commercial failure. This is totally absurd: most of the music industry consists of small label that sell little quantities and still manage to generate enough profit to keep going, and many of these labels increase their income with rereleases (that don't imply costly studio time in recording sessions). How many copies do u think André Cymone sold with his remasters? Why do u think Pepé Willie has rereleased his 94 East stuff so many times over the years if not for money? How many copies do u think Cherry Pop and Virgin sold of their rerelease of Wendy & Lisa's Fruit At The Bottom? So OK u may not be convinced but believe me, all these labels ARE."

.

"Buckethead has released, PHYSICALLY, 46, yeah FORTY SIX albums in 2 years. How many people do u think even know who Buckethead is and buy his records, let alone all of them? Still, if he does it it's that it's profitable to some extent.

John Zorn releases, PHYSICALLY, an average of an album every 2 months on his own label, and if I'm not mistaken he also maintains most, if not his whole catalogue (100+ albums) on print, PHYSICALLY. How many people know who John Zorn is and buy his albums, let alone all of them? Still, if he does it it's that it's profitable to some extent.

How can it be possible that there's no money to be made with The Time???"

.

Thank you. Point made. End of debate.

Fair enough and I truly do hope this to be the case. I simply do not understand the financials involved to know if the time and effort and investment spent would jusitfy doing it. Now if you are saying it could be done for legacy and the love of the music then THAT is a different matter. ONe thing I do know though is that *I* would buy a set of remastered protege albums like a shot!

What's the story? He's been performing with Morris and Sheila E.

The Time's already reunited, and talked about being at peace with Prince. If they opened up a show, that doesn't even mean he needs to be in the same city when it happens.

They're not talking about any of the others like Jill.

According to Nik West from the Funkenberry Spreecast, it's quite possibly Judith Hill, a singer who was featured in This Is It, and who has sung with many other legends including Stevie Wonder.
