You know, I think this has already been discussed and the matter's been thoroughly covered. Everyone here agrees that not only will the songs be altered, but that they SHOULD BE, with all sounds (not just vocals) being replaced with animal sounds sampled using a toy Casio keyboard.

I know "everyone" might be a bit inaccurate, but there is a definite consensus. databank just doesn't want to admit what he knows is true.

Yes, he has like 5 alternative versions of each song off Purple Rain, WDC's alternative says "Dig if you will the picture, of me and Marvin Gaye having sex, the sweat of his body covers me.."... I heard it at a listening party in New York last summer... Prince also mentioned that he remixed Call Me Maybe for the 30th anniversary.

He once said it would be really easy to make Purple Rain 2. To illustrate this, I heard he's going to replace every track with a more recent one, also to bring those forgotten tracks to the people's attention.

So this 30th Anniversary Purple Rain will look something like:

Side A

1. Everybody Loves Me

2. The One U Wanna C

3. A Million Days

4. Guitar

5. Breakfast Can Wait (with tacked on to the end: the backwards Pretzelbodylogic accapella intro repeated 30 times)

Side b

6. Chocolate Box

7. The Song Of The Heart

8. The Daisy Chain

9. Last December

I wouldn't mind one disc with the original remastered with bonus tracks and then one with the new rerecorded version. I am being greedy to though and want a third disc with other tracks from that time period that was not included and 12" ext and b-sides ext.

I think there's more of a chance that Prince drops a 7 cd boxset of stuff the die hard fans already have in previous compilations, and tells WB to deal with it.

He's not altering anything on Purple Rain. Whether he wants to or not (probably not), he knows this is a money spinner, it could be his biggest selling release since Diamonds & Pearls probably.

Now he might decide to edit/re-record/withhold any previously unreleased material that he deems unsuitable from such re-issues but we just don't know it's all a guess at this point.

how many people who bought PR in 84 will buy it again? just the people who want unreleased stuff ..no one else

The CD for Purple Rain was pretty shoddy for whatever reason. The songs sounded huge on radio, or in the theater, but so compressed, and small over CD. The cassette probably sounded better. A lot of people don't have turntables any longer.

Otherwise, maybe people in their early 20's, but they'll just download a couple songs?

I think the key is what they do with the drum tracks. There's potential for those songs to sound like they got a new coat of paint just by remixing the Linn drum alone. Too much, and it'll ruin things though.
