Reportedly the PR reissue (the first planned Prince reissue) will come out this fall. But afterwards, what then and when? (Do we expect his new album to come out in the summer?)

Of course this is all speculation, but any thoughts and suggestions and wishes on this?

On the issue of an artist re-releasing their catalogue with remasters and outtakes/B-sides, as a Beatles fan I look at what Paul McCartney has been doing lately. His first solo reissue was BAND ON THE RUN, his biggest hit album and generally considered his best solo record. Then he followed-up with two reissues paired together in MCCARTNEY and MCCARTNEY II, which despite coming out a decade apart, they are siblings in being one-man productions coming out during the supposed "Wings-Era" of his career. That made sense. Then RAM (imo his best solo record), and then last year it was his concert album WINGS OVER AMERICA. Not paired with it, but around that same time McCartney finally rleeased his concert film ROCKSHOW (which shot that same tour that WOA recordings came from) on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Apparently Mr. P and WB aren't going to pull a Queen or John Lennon and re-release the entire catalogue at once. I think that's smart. A cool thing about reissues when done right is that with good marketing and timing, you can have music critics re-evaluate said albums that maybe were ignored or hated initially with fresh ears. I hope Mr. P/WB are able to do this with his catalogue's entries that aren't as well known as PURPLE RAIN or whatever.

If PR comes out in fall 2014 to coincide with the album's 30th anniversary, then 2017 we'll get SIGN O THE TIMES for its 30th birthday, right? Imagine not just a SOTT remastered package, but also the movie finally widely released on DVD and Blu-Ray. Maybe they should get Criterion involved because the SOTT movie is the sort of thing they would be totally into?

But any other ideas?

1999 will obviously be seperate. (THE GOLD EXPERIENCE is still an issue, isn't it?) What if Love Symbol and DIAMONDS & PEARLS are released together? Will PARADE and ATWIAD be paired together? Maybe FOR YOU and PRINCE make more sense?

I would love feedback on this.
